2k2 Jaguar X-Type VS 2k Maxima (Both Auto)

Well,

My cousin and i had nothing to do and we was on the topic of cars and such thing would have you, then we got into engines, So my cousins Jag is 3.0 and so is my Max, so we said lets do it, went on the Belt Parkway service road where it puts you into linden or atlantic ave, and went for it...My max past him, but the from a stop the jag rolled past me, on a long freeway stretch i can past him easily but the jag does stay right up there as well and if not, it is passing you. IMHO i give the X-type 2 thumbs up. I was happy that my max stayed right with him!

isnt the X-Type just a fixed up Ford Mondeo? not a countour? or are those two cars using the same chassis?

what i heard was the X-Type's platform is on based but taken from the countour
I saw a review on TV saying that the AWD system on the car was pretty good
that from a stop and go 60% of the power resided to the rear wheels while 40% went up front giving the X-Type a feeling of a RWD car

I have driven the car plus raced it. It is something that you should think twice about (2K & 2K1 owners) as for 5spd Max, just imagine if the x-type was 5spd as well, the jag rep said it yielded pretty good numbers.

That engine is a Ford 3.0 V6...same thing they've been using for the (present or past?) Taurus. Hard to believe the Duratec V6 can be as efficient and powerful as the Nissan 3.0VQ.

Ford block + Mazda-designed DOHC 24-valve head + Jaguar-designed variable valve timing implementation = 231 HP, or whatever it's rated at. This is what I've gathered from reading around.

Remember, Ford is a global company now, so a lot of the parts in their cars aren't necessarily from the good ol boys up in Detroit, but rather from all over the world

Doh! forgot about that. If Ford can't build the Technology they want, they acquire the company that has it...just like Microsoft

In all fairness, that Duratec V6 is Ford's best V6 motor ever. (Other than price, it's the only reason why anyone should consider buying a Contour.) That motor puts out 200hp in the Contour SVT and 231hp in the X-Type.

Actually, I think the Yamaha designed head/Ford SHO dual intake tract V6 was the best motor Ford offered. It was just that the Taraus body and tranny that this gem of a motor was attached to sucked to hell.

I had a little run in with an xtype in the rain, he killed me on the launch (4wd vs. fwd in the rain )but once my front end stopped bouncing, I was reeling him in pretty fast, I have no fear for the x-Type, except in the rain from a stop.

There are numerous SC'd SHO's putting more than 350hp to the ground, and having no tranny problems. While the early clutches were mostly crap, the tranny can hold up very well. Just ask this guy with a Vortech'd 89 that put 451 hp to the ground. Daily driven, full interior SHO (drove it from KEntucky to Oklahoma for the National SHO Convention last year) that will outaccelerate ANY car currently sold in the U.S. (he holds a few land speed records BTW. 0-1 mile trap speed of 166 mph, or 14 mph FASTER than a Ferrari 360 Modena) Not bad for a 13 yr old body and tranny that 'sucked to hell'

A mechanic friend of mine said that the nickname for the X-type Jaguar is Jagasaurus because ~ 70% of the parts are from the Ford Taurus.

Actually, the only V6 engine ever offered in the contours (regardless of SVT or regular) was the 2.5 Duratec. I have driven an SVT and I can tell you that a VQ will tear it apart.

Never said it was as good as the VQ. Outside of the J32A2 (TL Type S motor), the VQ is the best full production NA V6 in the USDM.

Sidenote: I don't consider the SHO Yamaha motor to be an inhouse Ford motor. Though derived from Mazda's 2.5L V6, the Duratec is an inhouse developed motor due to Ford's "ownership" of Mazda.

The 3.0 SHO engine has some of the exact same dimensions as the regular 3.0, but Yamaha had to make some changes as the stock 3.0 was not up to the task. Rumor has is it that after a few years, Ford took over the actual engine building, but I have not confirmed this. Either way, Yamaha designed a great engine, whose output is only now begin surpassed, 14 years later. And a good flowing NA engine will give you 300 hp, while the boosted ones have seen crank hp climb to well over 500hp.
