I would've bought Cattman or OBX at the time but since I was in school, the shorty style was affordable so.......enough said.
If you can't afford the decent headers, it would be more logical to just save up until you can. Putting crappy headers on your car just increases eventual total expense when you finally come around to wanting the OBX. *cough* Would I be talking about you Tee? And here you are arguing the merits of installing ebay headers when it came straight from your mouth a few days ago that now you want to get a set of real headers. Wasted money...

I would bet on OBX or Cattman making 30-50whp if you already have all the right supporting mods and something to tune with.

OBX and Cattman are NOT long tube headers!!!!! They are mid-length at best, but on the other VQ35DE platforms would be considered shorty headers. Long tubes will have primaries that are optimal for the engine, and for us around 1.75" width and 30" length is the ticket. These ebay headers are even shorter, yes... but that's just because they are absolute trash.

In the case of the Y-pipe, that does apply for you 2000-2001 fed spec people, but for 5.5 gens it is full headers/Y-pipe or bust. Generalizing doesn't work so well on the 5th gen forums.

Love this guy (n0hom0).

And even though they may seem, they're not exactly equal length either, but it's the best we have.

yeah I would like to get some OBX or whatever else but im not gonna go crazy if I don't, Even if they don't make much power, at the end of the day im not trying to be the fastest Maxima up here, I actually could care less its just for everyday driving or anything else that I decide to do with my shorty headers...nothing personal....

You damn right.. If i wanted a fast car i wouldnt have got a maxima.. However, I get the impression that if you remove the precats like I have on my 02 i can get better gas mileage.. If i get headers i can get better gas mileage and get a lil more power as a offset to the mod.. I have much respect for those who want to spend top dollar to mod their cars to run down the 1/4th with top results, but everyone dont want to achieve 1/4th mile goals..

BUT!!! I dont want to spend the X amount of hrs to pull the stock manifolds off and put on BS headers just to get under there again to put on good headers down the road.. Now how long these cheap ebay headers will last the average driver is the question i want to ask..

If I had an extra 5.5th Gen I would try some of those super cheap parts just to see how they pan out!!!!! Kinda like an experiment on wheels!

A quantitative research experiment... and you could publish a paper on it.

I'd like to see someone try the $100 dollar altima headers and have a Y-pipe made for them. The primaries are slightly longer than cattman/OBX.
