Removing door molding [pics inside]

Has anyone ever thought about removing the door moldings? I would require some serious work I think...

I know the photoshop quality sucks, I just started to fool with it a few days ago...

I personally think it looks ugly too... and no I have no interest in doing this.

I just did this photoshop b/c I read someone else's post in this forum asking what our cars would look like w/o the molding and it got me interested. It looks better left untouched...

I don't think it looks bad but there will still be a part that sticks out from the design of the door unless you plan to smooth it out completely (somehow)... Also gotta realize that you'll probably have a nice dent in the side of your car first day you park in busy parking lot.

Maybe if you brush out the door handles...

No, really, it just looks so naked. Very odd thing your thinking here.

It'll look good, the reason why people are negative about it is because its different. Removing the spoiler and putting on a Stillen lip kit, lowering it will really set this off right.

I noticed you covered up the side markers as well. Without side markers it looks like an old Altima. Try a pic not covering those up and see how that looks.

Looks weird. The moldings flow with the lines on the front and rear bumpers as well as the side skirts. Doesn't look right without them. I wouldn't do it if it was me.

He wouldn't do it anyways, I'd put money on it.

It doesn't look terrible, I was looking at my car the other day wondering the same thing. Then I remembered the parking lot dings, I'd hate the way it would look with a bunch of dents in it lol.

This.

I actually had the dealership add body side molding to my wife's CR-V when we bought it new. Stupid things cost over $300, but they're worth it. You can see where the car doors would have been dinged up otherwise. And they look pretty darn good, too.

I don't have that problem on my Maxima... one, because of the body side moldings. And two, because I park way the heck out in East Bumfuc.

It can actually look good depending on the vehicle. Here is my old Cherokee with and without side molding.

Although the Maxima and your Cherokee have ride height in common, there isn't too much else I see as far as similarities...

Good on the Cherokee. Not the Maxima...

I like the look without the moldings, but I like having the protection better.

Ya I used a heat gun to remove the goop behind the trim and the C started to come off. I eventually fixed it to say "HERO" just before I sold it. BTW there is one more difference between the two pics if you look closely.

The molding has a purpose. Bumpers. For door dings.

That is the reason I posted it because they are similar in ALMOST every way No I was just saying it probably wouldn't look good on the Maxi but I did remove molding on my last car and it actually turned out quite nice.

Sorry, I am just a little too proud of my old Jeep haha. I Put alot of hard work into it. I bought it as 2WD, bought a 4X4 Cherokee that had been rolled, then swapped the tranny, transfer case, front & rear axles, front & rear drive shafts, shifter & linkage. Then installed a custom 5" suspension lift, bigger tires, slip yoke eliminator kit in the transfer case, upgraded to a stronger dana 44 rear axle, limited slips, stronger axle shafts, and on and on. That thing was a beast it would go anywhere! Then I was stupid and sold it for $3,500 oh well I'll get another some day and I'm glad I now have my Maxima it has plenty of power and still gets impressive mpg for a v6. My Jeep was getting about 14 after the 4x4 and lift and the cost of gas was killing me.

+1 on needing the moldings, but IIRC, the moldings are only glued on, like the 1st gen Altima, those recesses left would look outta place.

I feel your pain with the gas mileage. My '93 HB is sitting on 33x12.5's (3" body, 3" sus lift), I get about 12 around town.

I did it with my old Cobalt and it looked a lot better but on the Maxima I think it helps the flow of the car
