car audio help/questions

Hey guys im new to the whole car audio thing i was wondering if you would be so kind and answer some of these questions..

I have an 01 max and the subwoofer just blew out i guess... so im thinking about getting a new aftermarket one with an amp...
what do i need to look for?
I have $300 to spend and im looking for one thats better then the crappy stock one would that be possible?
also Would i be able to install a new woofer and amp without touching the old ones or would i need to take it out and all the wiring... Thank you

I have a 850 watt mono channel amp for sale.. $175, plenty of power for what it sounds like you want to do.

i've hooked my wifes 95 maxima up with a jl audio 500/1 & two 12w7's in 2.5 cu ft each ported to about 36hz. im not a big jl fan but the subs actually are pretty tough. i had em on about 2k in my truck and they surprised me

Personally to get the most out of the amount that your looking to spend, your going to be in the neighborhood of about 250 or so with equipment. Your going to have to add in a wiring kit to power an aftermarket amplifier, as well as a radio or low level convertor if you keep the stock radio.
I would have to say for the amount you have left over after those I would look at a mediium sized hifonics amp and a kicker cvx 12. should put you close to the range that your looking to spend. Now aside from that it just so happens that I may have 2 single 12 inch enclosures in the garage, and would be willing to send you one for the cost of shipping.
