difference in struts?

What's the difference in struts between the 5th gen (2000-2001) and the 5.5 gens (2002-2003)..

I have searched all over the place and see that the 00 and 01 struts are cheaper...

I need peoples input ASAP because my right front strut and strut mount is wearing the inside of my tire...

does not seem to differ when I took it apart. but i didnt do a side by side comparison, just from memory of what both look like. but dont take my word for it. both have the little spot for the secondary brake lines and have same mounting points for primary brake lines. it may be different in actual shaft length but iono.

The ONLY difference is the brackets for the ABS lines.

I've got a bunch of OEM parts for sale if you're looking for a cheap replacement. PM me.

Are you sure?

I would think the front struts and springs are different due to the added weight of the 3.5

The quick way to check is call Nissan and get the part numbers

3.0 and 3.5 should be close to weight..

whats peoples gross weight on the 5th and 5.5 gens??

and say i just replace a strut from a 00-01 with the factory 5.5 gen spring??

Well I know they are physically the same. That doesn't mean the internals/spring rates are. Like I said, call Nissan. Get the PNs, if they're different, that answers your question.

As for your idea to replace the strut with a 5th gen strut, and keep your 5.5 springs, it will work fine.

One thing I will recommend, you should be replacing struts in pairs, ideally, you should do all 4, but at the minimum, do pairs. you don't 'have' to of course, but I recommend it.

They're exactly the same depending on model...... SE's are stiffer than GXE and GLE! But they're all interchangeable......!!!!!!

exactly the same but stiffer?

Well at least that verifies that the 2000/2001 and 2002/2003 are the same? Or does it?

We know they fit, we know they 'work'. What I want to know, is are the spring rates and damper rates the same for the 5th gen and 5.5 (same model, apples to apples)

Doesn't matter a whole lot I'm just curious. I'm personally installing COs anyways.

They are the same 00 to 03, all SE models have slightly stiffer springs that is all.

Even if part numbers are different, they can still be the same. Nissan re-numbers their parts.

And even if the spring/dampening rates are different, the difference would be so miniscule it's not even necessary to consider it.

Their similar visually but not dimensionally starting with the knuckle....the 4th Gen, 3rd and 2nd have a small knuckle assy....Second the 4th gen strut mount suck and are easy as hell to round out the flat in the thru hole due too it's thin stamped steel construction. The thickness of the strut mounts themselves are different, the 4th is thinner than the 5th Gen but the front springs are identical as per Progress Technologies tech rep....

Not the same lower mounting, it can be modified to fit, but they're not the same.
