Transmission or Some sort of mount problem ? Input?
Transmission or Some sort of mount problem ? Input?
hey guys,
I have a 01 4AT and lately (4 months or so) I have been getting severe vibrations when I shift into Reverse or Drive in the mornings. My initial thoughts were that my ATF was really cold and therefore not doing its job, but now that the weather has warmed up significantly I am starting to think its something with the internal workings of the tranny. The vibrations seem to feel like they are worse when I have my foot on the brake and the car is stationary, as soon as i let go and the car begins to move they sort of subside.
If i let the car warm up to full hot running conditions, then the vibrations dont seem to happen.
I basically have 2 hypothesis as stated in my title, either my tranny has commited suicide or that theres some sort of mount issue that is transmitting signifcant vibrations when i shift into R or D(1,2,or D).
Also, could it be the Amsoil ATF causing me problems? It seemed to have started this winter (after i replaced my Dino with Amsoil ATF).
Background information: 4AT , ~200,000kms and brand new Amsoil ATF replaced less than 10,000 kms ago.
Any insights, or troubleshooting methods would be apprieciated. I'd like to find out whats wrong before shoveling out the money.

There are 4 mounts.
Front/rear engine mounts.
Transmission mount - underneath the intake/behind battery
Passenger side transverse mount - Visible on left side of the engine bay.
With that kind of mileage your electric mounts are probably shot. I'd replace all 4. They can be had for about $100-$150 for all 4, and take about 2 hours to install (if you know what you're doing)

ES make mounts for the tranny and passenger mount / are they all just the same ?
