From Greg Childs of BRM Exhaust:
BRM Exhaust is proud to introduce our catback system for the 00-03 Nissan Maxima!
Construction - All systems are constructed of mandrel-bent, T-304 stainless steel (or aluminized mild steel) in 3" diameter. BRM's systems are not "mass-produced" and are manufactured by hand. Our fabricators have over 100 years combined experience in custom exhaust design, and we recently sold our 700th catback for the S-chassis.
MIG welding is used for most welds, some TIG welding is utilized. Welds are cleaned up afterward for a nicer, finished appearance.
Flanges are 3/8" billet pieces, whereas the competition uses thin, flimsy STAMPED STEEL flanges.
Muffler, resonator, catalytic converter, and tips are ALL Magnaflow units. We've found their stuff to be the best-suited to these applications.
Sound - BRM catbacks are designed for a non-ricey, throaty sound. Deep rumble at idle, and an aggressive, deep tone throughout the RPM range. Can't say much more here, except for NO RICE.
Appearance - BRM believes in maintaining a stock fitment and appearance, and as such, the flashiest thing you'll see is the chrome tips. No weird, unnecessary angled canisters or anything like that. Just clean, timeless style.
Tips - All systems are dual 2.5" beveled chrome tips.
Resonator - 3" systems are only available with the 14" resonator.
Fitment- Our system bolts up to the factory cat flanges and uses the factory hangars.
Pricing – 2000-2003 Nissan Maxima pricing is as follows:
3" Aluminized is $530
3” Stainless Steel is $630
Shipping (48 states) is $45. Shipping to Canada is $75.
Turnaround time is roughly 8 days. Sometimes we're faster!
Aluminized or Stainless - Which to choose? - Aluminized (not aluminum) tubing is a coated mild steel. It's basically what most auto manufacturers use for OEM systems. Not as resistant to corrosion and weighs about a half-pound more. Performance is identical.
Aluminized steel is great if you live in an arid climate and don't really worry about rust. If you live in an area with a lot of snow, rain, or near the ocean, stainless is a smarter choice. Stainless will not corrode and is guaranteed for as long as you own the car.

Note - BRM is incorporated along with NICO, and any profits from BRM go towards offsetting the enormous expense of keeping NICO up and running as the #1 Nissan/Infiniti resource on the web.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What is a resonator, and do I need one?
A resonator is critical for a street-driven car. Here are some basic, layman's terms explanations:
There are 3 common ways to reduce sound in an exhaust system: Resonator (reflected waves), muffler (wave absorption and reflection) and silencer (reflected waves and restriction). BRM uses a resonator and a straight-through muffler on its systems.
Resonator is a straight-through chamber sized larger than the inlet / outlet, sometimes with baffles or slots (think old-school cherry bombs). Tuned properly (through placement, diameter, length, shape and location) it will actually cancel out certain frequencies as the sound waves collide, yet does not impede flow.
Muffler is a chamber with internal walls (think of a maze) that the gasses travel through. As the waves pass through, they are disrupted and "chopped up" and the sound is absorbed by the surrounding packing (think of an insulated room). Can be restrictive depending on design - if it's a straight-through design, it will not impact flow and actually makes very little impact on the sound (primarily "fine tunes" the exhaust note).
Silencer is a conical obstruction placed in the exhaust system which reflects sound waves back against themselves, canceling certain frequencies, much like a resonator. But it also works by restricting the amount of flow, thereby reducing sound levels. May as well shove a potato in your tailpipe and bore a small hole in it.
Let's get some people interested for this product!!
This is an exact unit you'll be purchasing but with no bung and better hangers than the prototype pictured below.

Once I receive mines, I'll be posting plenty of vids.
Also I'm sure the gains are going to be what you think they'll be. Why would you want the obx muffler on there, wouldnt you want a stock look?
Lets get the ball rolling!!!
They will be made once you order...better than waiting

Magnaflow muffler with a 14" x 4" round Magnaflow Resonator....That's gonna be a little loud guys! Maybe a wee bit louder db than Megan racings 00-03 2.5" Catback......
Looks alright guys go get it!!!!!

Can this be the nail in the coffin for the $739.99 catt-man 3''
- $630.00 BRM Exhaust 3''
= $109.99 savings or i like to call it HOT ROD DOLLARS
I have to say with the pretty nice price tag and beautiful muffler rolled 2.5 tips if fitments isn't an issue
I think this is going to be a great buy. I have seen this muffler in person on a friends 95 240sx it looked great

This x2. Although I believe that's the same Magnaflow muffler I used to run on my Z and it was rather loud. I didn't have a cat on my Z though and that makes a big difference.

Cattman has pretty loyal following, I think it'll take more than $110 to sway people. Having said that I hope this works out to be a quality product, there's nothing wrong with competition and having options.

How about interior at freeway speeds? That's the one thing that will kill any interest in an exhaust for me is a freeway drone. I drive out to Kentucky and back and Arizona and back each at least once a year. Last thing I want to hear is a drone for 900-1080 miles each way.

I didn't even thunk of that TBH, blonde moment for Tuner. I just want to keep my dam AE muffler when I do my exhaust. I guess I have to do more mods.

I am most interested in hearing how it sounds cruising on the highway, too. Screw people's ears outside the car! It's all about what the driver hears, right?
@Mr. ScottWax: Whereabouts in Kentucky?
<-- Scheming about paying you to do some detailing the next time, maybe, or seeing what a clean and slick Sterling Mist looks like.
