Handle above driver's side door
Handle above driver's side door
Alright...this is my first post so go easy on me.
I just installed my FSTB so I'm taking turns a little quicker now and I'd like to have something to hold onto. I want to add a handle above the driver's side door. The other three doors have one but not the driver's door. Do these things just screw in somehow? I tried to remove the passenger side one but I wasn't too successful. Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks.

I drive an auto and I find it useful to grip the shifter with my right hand when I take quick turns. Are you sure you want to let go with your left hand and only hold the wheel with the right hand? That's unsafe if you ask me. Of course, I'm a lefty
Both hands on the wheel and one foot on the dead pedal works fine. Going around right handers you will lean on the dead pedal on lefty's you lean against the center console. If ever something goes wrong and you are one handing it your chances are nil of recovering.
But if you REALLY want one take a look at getting the handle for the driver side rear door. I would check to see that there is a place to hang it properly.
The only thing I really use mine for (2K) is to play with at a stop light, if I am not jiggling the shifter, reving the engine or looking for another CD.

those are called "oh **** handles ..."
If the driver needs to grab an Oh **** Handle ...
Hope you got your seatbelt on!!!
But like everyone else said, just keep both hands on the wheel and you should be just fine. If that's not good enough, grab onto the door handle (the one you use to close the door ... not to open it).
I agree with the guys here, if you want to hold on to something, hold on to the shift ****. Your probably getting yourself in trouble as well trying to put a handle, because you would have to drill holes and its probably just more trouble than its worth. what I do is when I take a turn fast one hand on wheel, the other on my girlfriend. I find it works well.
The only thing with holding onto the stick (auto ro manual) is that id you are using it for leverage you may knock it out of position. When that happens you get disconcentrated, the car gets unballanced (you were probably on the gas a bit to keep a stable speed) next thing you know you are looking at where you came from or you are showing why there is so much space in the wheel well!
If you are pushing it, there is no excuse not to do it right.

if you're going around a turn and your really leaning a lot and need something to hold on to you really should have both your hands on the wheel at that point. why be intentionally unsafe? what IF your right hand slips? it may not happen often but you really really dont want it to happen at the wrong time. you'll be regretting putting that handle on forever....if you're alive to regret anything. just be smart.
I never heard of someone who takes turn with the right hand
just grab the shifter with the right hand and left hand on the wheel. If its really hard turn....i suggest using both hands becasue then you won;t have a good control of the wheel with one hand
BTW are you a new driver?
