Transponder chip durability

I was wondering about the durability of the transponder chips. I had some trouble getting it out of the key and it got slightly scraped up in the process. The main part the chip is fine, but the sides got kinda scratched and a little bit of the bottom part got chipped off. I would test it, but the car is in the shop b/c of an accident (another story) and i won't get it back for a while. I know you can't say for sure until it's tested, but i just wondered if they were usually pretty durable or if they were easy to break. Sorry to ask such a weird question. Thanks for any help

I don't know for certain, but I would say that it is ok. The small electronic part(s) have been molded in a block of plastic to protect them. If you can't see anything other than the black plastic, the chip should be ok.

I wouldn't know that, but I do know that my key is ten years old, i haven't had any problem with the transponder, not like a lot of GM have problem with them.

Why did you remove the chip from the key?
