Investigating a 3rd option for Power Steering Hose

While commenting on one of the other power steering hose threads I had a thought occur to me about how the 4th gens don't have this problem. Mine was blown at 95K when I bought my 2000, I elected to go with the aftermarket, followed the directions to a T and surprise got the same whining noise everyone else has. That said I would still go with the aftermarket hose because I totally mangled the flange nut and it will not be reusable again. Basically in the event the hose breaks I will have to replace the piping that the flange attaches to.

So, it is well established that you have 2 choices, OEM = bad quality part, aftermarket = noisey. Choice is up to the individual, neither is perfect.

I decided I would look up the schematics for the 4th gen. The set up is actually near identical to the 5th gen with one key difference, the junction point is on the piping in the 4th gen meaning the hose attaches with a banjo bolt at both ends.

4th gen:

5th gen:

What I propose is that the 4th gen piping and hose be used on the 5th gen. I don't have enough knowledge of the parts involved to know if the swap would be so simple so I was hoping someone with more advanced knowledge could comment on the feasibility of this. It looks like it should work from the schematics but that doesn't mean that the end of the piping would properly connect or the 4th gen hose would connect to the pump.

I have a 4th gen (97) and I had to replace the power steering hose on it. Do a search on 4th gen hose replacement and you will change your mind about "better quality". I had a 3rd gen and the hose leaking was a problem in those cars too. Nissan has used the same basic design of the hose for way too many years and it is not that good of a design.

That mid clamp could be putting that hose in a bind on the 5 th Gens! Causing the swage/hose crimp to fail....I'm not unhappy mine lasted 8 yrs and I'll save the old one and have it rebuilt locally.......
