trans issue? need help

Hi guys! I got a 00 auto maxima, I have some issues that I'm sure are related to the tranny and some that I'm kinda sure are related to the trans... Ill start with the for sure's...

So...

I notice that in most cars when just say, cruising in a parking lot, if your goin really slow with an auto it will stay in first gear cuz the bands are nice and long, well mine is the opposite... If I gently tap the gas and take my foot off its shifts into second. So if I am in a parking lot and pulling out and have a opening and slam on the gas it hesitates... Downshifts... And takes off... Also I notice if I take off from a red light its shifting into second nice and quick but too soon, second to third is more soft and delayed as well as third to fourth, its definatly not slipping its just the shifts take longer than normal, the odd time it shifts perfectly.

Now for the issue that I THINK is related, when I start the car in the morning, and take off while its not fully warmed up I can feel hesitance like its trying to shift from first to second to early again but cuz its cold something is not letting it shift. I hope all of this makes sense haha. When its warm the first to second shift shifts at the right time but it feels like something is trying to allow it to shift to early. it like it always thinks the car is just cruising so its shifting to early, its not paying attention to where the throttle lies like if your pushing the throttle down a quarter of the way it should shift from 1st to 2nd at 2200 if your at 3/4th throttle its supposed to shift at 3000ish... Mine won't it will always shift at 1800 keeping in mind that's if I start off in the car feathering it then try and punch it, as soon as I punch it its shifting, if I stomp on it right away it will take off normally.... Anyways if anyone can even understand what I'm saying I would love your imput! But this could turn out to be a bunch of gibberish! Hahaha

Hey there!

I could see needing a band adjustment, I know my T.C. It locks and unlocks properly.

Pretty much when its warm the shifts feel strange1st to 2nd feels firm but happens too soon, 2nd to 3rd feels it happens ant the right time but is mooshy (shifts are long but not slipping just it takes a bit longer). And the same up. Cruising around town it just feels like its not in the right gear ratio.

When its cold the shifts feel better, but when taking off infirst it feels like its trying to shift from 1st to 2nd too early cuz it feels like it hesitates but because it cold something is not allowing to shift early, but making shift on time.

I hope that's a bit more understandable

Thanks for your input! OTE=00Lightsout;8048374]sounds like you need a band adjustment or a torque converter. my $0.02![/QUOTE]

1-2 shifts can be adjusted through the band. Super easy, takes less than 5 mins. to adjust.

1st to 2nd shifts fine but to early. 2nd to 3rd shiftd to soft and delayed, I've heard of the 1st to 2nd being a hard shift but I feel like mine shifts properly... Just to early. But thanks for the input! When I'm off work I will check it out

Sounds like a possible TCM issue.

Do some searches on here, you'll find some good info. They're rather inexpensive and easy to install.

Thanks nmexmax! But I have researched the tcm, from what I read, tcm only controls 1st to 2nd shifts, the rest are controlled by solenoids. I notice mostly the long shifts in every gear but 1st, but first shifts too soon, the other thing I was thinking is that because first is shifting too fast its causing my gear ration to be all messed up prolonging the rest of my shifts... I will look into the tcm though, hard with no cel!!!!!

I can sell you an OEM VB. That might fix it.

Since you can adjust the bands for FREE and it only takes 5 mins(apparently) i'd start there then see how it feels after that if no improvement look at all your other options.
