WTF....Maximas are one of the worst cars out there??!!!

Was really shocked to see the 6th Gen Maxima listed as one of the most troublesome cars listed here:

http://autos.ca.msn.com/showroom/use...8851255&page=4

This was especially disappointing seeing that I was in the market for an 07 or 08 Maxima after having such an amazing expereince with my 2000 Maxima.

They list inconsistant shifting, faulty A/Cs, coils, bad steering racks, faulty headlights, excessive brake wear, leaky sunroofs...etc.

Would love to know if 6th Gen owners agree with this assessment.

I for one, fully believe the issue with coils. As I had that problem with 5th gen as did so many others.

Wrong forum. All the 6th gen. owners you're asking are in the 6th gen. forum

You should ask and browse in the 6th gen section, then.

Nissan changed to a different part for the secondary timing chains used on the 05-06 Altima and Maxima (Frontiers of the same years also had the problem too I believe). The new chain chewed through the guides which took them down to bare metal, resulting in a whine sound that increased with engine speed.

I believe ntb07-042 was the TSB#. Most cars develop the sound shortly after the 60k powertrain warranty was up. That is what happened to my wife's '05 SE. The whine got bad about 70k and it cost me about $1400 to fix. Both secondary timing chains and guides had to be replaced.
found this on another forum that a member had to do. more proof the 6th gen is no good...

Anybody else recognize the funny in these two sentences?

Aside from it being in the wrong forum, and relatively pointless.

+1 It was a nice size, plenty of power, and the 3.0 while not being as strong had none of the oil-burning issues that the 3.5 had.

3000 miles after an oil change in the two 3.0's in my family, the oil still looks like honey on the dipstick.

That 7th Gen CVT is pretty amazing tech, and really lets you pretend that you're shifting. (Emphasis on pretend.) However, the 6.5 Gen CVT was just about the most horrible Maxima I've ever driven. I would not wish that car on any driving enthusiast.

Yeah, heyyyyyy. My '99 is a great car, and the only 'different' problems I've had come from it being Cali spec.

And to think that my Wife wanted one of those instead of the nimble 2003....the report the 1st year were door seal problems, fit issues, etc! I knew then that the Maxima was doomed straight from Tennessee!

6th gens aren't even real cars

They have some nice luxurious appointments but other than that... I look at 98% of them and think WTF. With that said there are some nice 6gens out there but the car as a whole, is a heavy bulbous pig IMHO.

I will say the 7gen is absolutely and brutally gorgeous- but damn, please use/offer the 7 spd auto(or a stick- yeah right) or go back to RWD.

I'm so happy with the 5.5 6spd- it is hard to think what I would actually want next.

And with headers on the way- it just gets better

I thought of moving it, but it's too late now, and would literally start a ***** war re: 4 vs 5 vs 6th gen.

With unfriendly banter such as a few posts up, it's reached that point.
