Rear Main seal , rtv or no?

So im in the middle of a clutch swap. Just waiting for parts. I installed my rear main seal today. The round rubber part of the seal that goes around the crank is nice and snug.

But the bottom of the seal has a tiny gap were the metal meets metal . Looks like oil could easily leak by, I cleaned the area with brake parts cleaner realy well. And I put some high TEMP rtv in the area I have in red on the picture below.

But Im still alittle worried , Is my seal missing something ?

Was RTV a good idea?
RTV Not needed ?

Please share your input. I dont want any leaks when I put this thing back together.

sorry to go off topic.....do you have to take the flywheel out the housing to get to and replace the rear main seal ? and are their any rubbers around that ? will you reuse the flywheel bolts ?

^^ Start a new thread.

I was wondering the same thing as I have my rear and front main in hand, but don't know if I need any sealant either. Good Q!

yes you do have to remove the flywheel, and I re-used the flywheel bolts just used some loctite.

that's where the oil pan half moons go.

Use rtv on the ends.

Do you not have a FSM?

Yeah. RTV would have to really be loaded up at this point. That's a huge gap. Always check the FSM before starting. Big jobs especially. Live and learn. Here is the part number for the rear: 11121-31U10. Costs about $10.

I figured buying a new $45 rear main seal it would come with everything.
Ya I guess ill see how the rtv holds, I do have a good amount in there. if it leak ill know why at least. I looked at the fsm but the link I have is impossible to search through and find anything. So I just went for it..
