IIRC it's the same as the 6 speed rod, meaning, you can just unthread the stock one and in theory, thread the 6 speed **** on. This means you can purchase any shift **** you want that is the proper thread pitch

Automatic Shift ****? That's almost an oxymoron.

You're going to want one that weighted properly for those quick shifts from Park to Drive.

Came in here for hopes of finding some pics of aftermarket 6mt *****...

But with the ones I like being more than OEM ones... I guess I"ll just replaced my worn OEM'r with another OEM one (Even though Nismo is sorta OEM.... lol)

I have a nismo carbon fiber one on my z, but I think it would look like crap on my maxima, its far too long, it's pretty bad as it sits, with the nismo it will look like a flag pole or something

Thinking of taking mine apart and adding some solder for added weight. Once I get a new replacement I'll try it.

2002AT "Selector" in 2001AT?

I've posted this question before in other threads and gotten no reply. So please don't consider this a cross post. Will the 5.5gen "gated" style AT selector work in a 5.0gen which has a "straight line" style AT selector. I.E will it operate the tranny properly and fit in the console without major re-construction. Yeah I know, it sounds like "what's the point" but I like the "sport" look of the 5.5gen AT selector much better than my "pathetic" looking 2001-5.0gen AT selector that <IMHO> looks like it belongs in a Taurus.

Yes the stock AT shifter in the regular 2000/2001 is terrible. The AE edition isn't bad.

In either case, it would require fairly extensive modification, they are a completely different design top to bottom. In short, no, you can't do it unless you want to get really involved.

That's too bad, by looking I hoped it'd be a fairly easy swap. What's the AE AT selector like, any pictures?

I have a Blox limited edition 490 spherical shift **** in neo-chrome finish. It's stainless steel, weighs 490 grams, just a little over one pound. Shifts great! And, it's the Nissan thread pitch of 10x1.25 mm, so it's a solid direct fit. www.bloxracing.com has really good pics of it.

Does anyone know if it is common for the AE 5mt **** to loose its silver plate all together? I bought a 20th about a month ago and apparently the previous owner somehow broke/pealed the whole silver plate off. It is entirely gone, there is just an indention in the top of the **** now where it was. I don't mean that the coloring was getting worn off, but the entire thing is gone. I want to get another AE **** but not if it will just loose the plate again. Thanks guys, First post FTW.

I compared the info. found in the 01 & 02 FSM and it looks like it would mount in the console OK aesthetically. But it seems the MAJOR technical stumbling block is the 01 uses a cable operated key interlock vs a solenoid interlock on the 02.

ANY Nissan techs out there to confirm/deny this?

There was someone a while back with a 00-01 maxima that swapped in a 02-03 auto in which allowed him to use the 02-03 gated shifter.

I'm not sure (I doubt actually) that it can be done without swapping the tranny. But I dont know enough about autos to be too sure. AT > MT swap FTMFW.

Let me know when you figure it out. Although with the seating position in the Maxima I think lower would be uncomfortable. I loved having the shifter and **** nice and low in my Zenki.

There's some discussion on shift ***** over on myG37.com of late... just like there's discussion on shift ***** in every single car forum ever. It made me think about my old Maxima shift ****, and when I searched google images, low and behold, there it was... bringing me right back here to this old thread and a bunch of my old comments.

Good times.

Anyway, FWIW, I recommend looking through www.LatheWerks.com for shift *****. I got one from LatheWerks last year for my G, in solid titanium. Love it.
