Hawk HPS pads - Put them on your car

I stripped out a front wheel stud recently when I was putting on my summer wheels. Today I got around to replacing that stud and I figured I might have to do the brakes too since I couldn't remember exactly when I had the brakes last done. Well the pads still have well over a half inch of material left and the rotor is fine too. I checked my records and found that I put the pads on the car on 13 Nov 2007 at 52,257 miles.

Now here we are 25 June 2011 and I now have 118,580 miles on the car. I've been thru two sets of tires and my FRONT brake pads still look like they can go for another 50k miles. So if you don't have Hawk pads on your car I would highly recommend you get some, mine have lasted me 66,323 miles and counting.

Thank you Soonerfan and Housecor for recommending them to me all those years ago. Btw, changing out the wheel stud only took me about 35 minutes.

Hawk is awesome. 37,000 on my pads and plenty left. Rotors are wearing very even as well.. No grooves. They are a little warped from the 4 cross country trips though...

Got 'em. Love 'em.

However, I didn't know they lasted as long as you're claiming. Good to know!

Just keep your rims waxed and washed, and brake dust is a non-issue. Normal wax is fine, or go all the way with Wheel Wax.

My wife does her best to just scrape the dust off with the curbs.

Hawk eh? Guess when it's time to change the brake pads will keep that in mind.

+1 on waxing the rims. The dust isn't that bad and easily washes off.

50k+ on my Advance Auto Parts ceramic pads and they are not even half-worn. Same lack of wear on my rotors.

I'm just sayin'...

Agreed with the stripped stud being a pita, mine stripped out at the hub "with" the wheel still on. Now that was not much fun.

Agreed with the hawk pads being "dusty". Didn't recall wheel getting so dirty before (hawks for 10k).

But like troop said, wife+curbs= no dust and I can grate cheese on my rims.

I love my Hawk HPS pads and Centric rotors setup, they still bite just as hard as new.

I tried the new Armor All wheel protectant to battle the dust, it works pretty good. Not as dramatic as the demonstration on youtube, but fairly effective.

my ceramics i had on my car for at least 60-70k miles and the only reason i pulled them off is because i went 6th gen BBK. they still had at least 40k miles i'd say left on them. at least i have back up brakes in the house. wish i could sell them off though

Hawk HPS pads are great for the street and they do not dust alot. Hawk HP+ Pads are more aggresive and they produce more brake dust. The HP+ pads are your entry level pads for any motosports.

+1 on HAWK HPS pads! only downside is driving other cars you have to remember to brake alot more early&gently

A little reading to add to the discussion: http://blog.caranddriver.com/perform...c-yellowstuff/

I know this is on a Miata, but the results/trends still apply to us.

Miles on the odo is not really an accurate way of measuring brake pads life span. I drove 900 miles this weekend and used my brakes less than I would have on a random afternoon worth of running errands.

HPS are great pads, I've yet to try them. so far been very happy with axiss ultimates.

You're absolutely correct but of all the car's I've owned over the last 15 yrs; 2 Saab's, 1 Volvo, 2 Explorers, and now 2 Maxima's. I never had a set of brake pads that lasted over four yrs regardless of the number of miles driven. I drive my cars hard and fast and these pads are going on all of them.
