2k maxima shifting behavior seems odd

I have had this car for a couple weeks now. I am going to change the transmission fluid this weekend (120k miles, not sure if it's ever been done).

The shifting is fine, no slipping or anything like that. What is weird, is WHEN it shifts. For example, there is an entrance ramp to get onto a main road that has the traffic light on it to regulate traffic. I roll up to it about 10mph, the light turns green and I hit the gas. The car is still in 2nd gear when I do this, why isn't it already in 1st? I have to push the gas down about half way to get it to downshift, which also seems excessive.

My mom had an 01 maxima AE when they were new, and I don't remember this behavior at all. I am wondering what I should be checking or if this is normal behavior for the 2000 car.

Thanks everyone.

Does is jerk when it finally downshifts? Could be a clutch issue.

Actually no, it seems to shift smooth and normally... just seems like the points are odd.

Could be an electronic issue. Check up on your fluid as well. But my guess is something electronic. No ses light?

No ses. I will get the fluid changed this weekend and take it from there.

Thanks!

I will update after changing the fluid. I just picked everything up and want to do it this weekend.

It almost seems like the TPS may be set funky, if the trans relies on that signal to know if the throttle is closed to downshift.
