Overheating problem! stumpped
#43
My guess is water pump.
My 4th gen currently has a radiator crack 4inches long just under the radiator cap. The system doesn't pressurize properly. My hoses are constantly soft and fluid sprays from the crack while the car is in use. I drive my car with outside temperatures around 85deg. Normal city/highway driving conditions for 15+ miles with the A/C in use and the temp gauge still never passes the halfway mark. I've been driving it like this for over 3 weeks 6 days a week and never once has it overheat on me. I seriously doubt lack of pressure is causing OP's problem when compared to my current cooling systems abuse.
For the record, I haven't had the funds to fix this issue. I have been waiting to do it the right way the first time. I've recently ordered my new Mishimoto Radiator, Mishimoto fans, Mishimoto hoses and new thermostat that should be installed within the next week.

Just for the record , i had a Honda Civic that had an overheating problem and replaced water pump, t-stat , flushed cooling system , and nothing worked until the radiator was replaced.
Even though it had flow when adding water to one side and coming out the other, it wasnt enough to cool the engine, so after replacing the radiator ( even though it wasnt leaking and had flow from one side to the other ) the overheating was gone .
right before the radiator was replaced ( after replacing all other cooling items ) the temp gauge would be stuck at half and then rise to red while driving and sitting at a stop light.
After the radiator the temp. gauge would stay at middle temp and drop to 1/4 hot when driving and never go past 1/2
food for thought

I just experienced the same problem with my 01. I noticed earlier that it started to heat up slowly but once I started driving the temp went back to normal. I suspected the fan might have stopped but it appeared that one was turning and one wasnt. Do they run on different fuses or both on the same. And how difficult is it to replace the fan unit....is it a weekend project or a "go get screwed by the dealer" issue.

ok so im still having this problem and when i did a pressure test. i found that it was not holding pressure unless i blocked off the part that leads to the over fill tank. i replaced the tank and still the same thing. -_-;;;
I have changed the hoses, thermostat, cap 3 times. and the overflow tank boils over after the drive 45 min.
i really want a 6 speed....

thanks for the input guys, yah the fans both turn on and i changed the cap with my friends maximas and its the same thing.... i think it might be a clogged radiator because the fluid was not lime green but a little bit dirtier. i also notice that the upper radiator hose dose not pressurize.

i would say that would be the problem but at wot around 100 mph it will start to overheat on hot days even with the heat on full blast but slowly
