Tokico Illuminas
Hey all; I'm looking to put Illumina's and Progress springs on my car, stock suspension finally blew. I was hoping someone could point to a good website where I could purchase Illumina's for the cheapest price possible. I've searched and haven't been able to come up with much. Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes I am. I am not comfortable doing it myself nor do I have all of the proper equipment to do it myself.
Thanks for all of the help everyone!! One last question, will I need to trim the oem bump stops on these for the install or just leave them as is? Thanks!

let's just get a general of what you are about to pay...
$500 - struts
$300 - labor =
$800... PLUS the springs....ill be generous and say
$100...thats
$900...you can find a good used/close to brand new set of coilovers for that price, seriously. and install them yourself

Installing coilovers is really easy. YouTube "replace struts" and you'll find a bunch of videos. Great thing with coilovers is that you won't have to compress the springs, which can be a royal pain in the A$$ if you don't have access to air tools.

^forgot about him...he might be able to save you a few hundred...but replacing coilovers is simple...the two nuts and bolts on teh bottom, and the three nuts up top for the front...and the rear...there are two nuts up top (just have you a magnet so the nuts wont get lost in that tight spot) and one bolt on the bottom...then adjust your height to your happiness, and you're set

Really? A compressor is not necessary for coilovers? That's makes me think twice now about replacing my struts.

i do wish there was a vid on replacing/removing spring/strut assembly on our cars, it'd make it easier for those wanting to do their own work. i tell you this though, i'm about to invest in a electric impact wrench

By the way, do not be cheap on tires, I would say 30% of your suspension set up is the tires.

What's that a 1.3" drop?
Progress/Illuminas/Nitto 555 (the same setup I've been running for about 5 years) I think they lasted longer than OEM personally!

Speaking of illuminas... I know they are warranted for a certain amount of drop (two inches?), but with a slam the warranty is voided. Does anyone consider this factor in their choice of lowering springs? Is the warranty short and useless anyways?
From what ive seen on the org they last long enough to have justified purchase so I assume I have a good product to match with some springs. Right now it seems that Eibachs are one of my only options for a drop if i want to retain warranty
In the end I would like to JUST drop the front on my m45 19" sports and run a 235/35/19s I dont want to drop the rear to avoid rubbing as I have a spare and sub in the trunk and regularly carry passengers.
Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated

IIRC they state they're ok until 1.6"
I've warranteed Illuminas that were on S-Tech's, which are way lower than 1.6", without issue. I wouldn't use this as a limitation.
BTW, don't get Eibachs. Every set I've installed, the customer has exchanged for another spring that's less harsh.

Assuming in going with struts / spring combo, do I need to replace anything else other than dust boots, bumpstops, and front mounts while its apart? Also, do the rear's get dustboots and bumpstops? Should I trim the stops or just leave them stock? Thanks yall
#34
If your dustboots/bumpstops look good then keep them but most of the dustbust are dry rotted and new one are needed! I've never seen a bad Strut mount yet...well on a Maxima that is!!!! I have a Progress sport spring and I never cut the last dustboots I installed....If you do cut them...Tokico suggest cutting 1/3" - 1/2" only! That's really nothing! All four strut do need dustboots and that will void your warranty since the dustboot and bumpstops are one unit in the OEM style, The New KYB which I don't like are a 2-piece design....GL Dude!

Front bumpstops, 00-01 Maxima:
It's a foam rubber piece inside the dustboot - it's removable and two pieces, but sold as one part.
Front bumpstops for 02-03, and rear bumpstops for 00-03:
It's integrated into the dustboot itself, at the top of it. One piece.
Box cutter works. Rears are a bit tough but still doable.
