How stiff should new struts be out of the box?

OK i got my new shocks and struts in today opened the box. so i began to inspect them , so i hold one in my hand at the bottom and hold the top with the other. if feels like it pushs down with ease maybe a little to easy, i call tokico up and they ask if their are any leaks , no......They say it's probally from shipping give it some time to settle, then it should harden up

what you guys think

Try pushing harder and faster. I believe they resist more the more pressure you put on them, that is normal.

Some types of struts have to be compressed/released a few times to "prep" them. As you repeat the procedure, you should feel more and more resistance from the strut.

Well that the big thing they were sopost to be iluminas, When i opened the box they were blues. me and the guy at stillen were talking back and forth at time of order, and he got the order mixed up. Short story I ended up getting stillen bucks for the mishap. I did't want to have to deal with sending them back wait for them to get them and then wait for them to send and be delivered.
The blues ended up only costing 300 and some change shipped

It's normal to be able to compress brand new struts out of the box by hand. the only time you should be concerned is if they don't extend back out on their own.

The springs hold up the car not the struts/shocks. So they are pretty easy to compress by hand

From what I've read here over and over... Blues are intended as an OEM replacement for stock springs, because they fail relatively quick when dropped. And I know you're dropping the car on lowered springs. You should probably research that a little bit, and ask around, before committing to the new suspension.

Blues are considered to be better than SE stock, but it's not a huge change. Just a welcome improvement.

You should be able to compress the shock and watch it slowly rise back up.

I agree here in that Blues are on par or slightly better than OEM replacement, but they are NOT meant for lowering springs. Especially Sprint springs which have an aggressive drop. I would push for the Illuminas. If you ordered Illuminas but got Blues, why should you have to cover return shipping?

Regarding how easy it is to push them down, don't worry about it, Blues are soft.

They won't be stiff immediately when it out of the box, due to reason that they are laying sideway, once you remove the clamp that holds the rod down til installation, they will start to get stiff, cuz the oil is laying sideway when it was in shipping box, and the gas is not up under the rod til it's place on the car. I hope you prime it like some of the guys say pump it, to make the oil lubricate around the inside.

Local here has been on tokico blues for over a year on dropzone springs.... Still working hard on a daily basis.

Since the king of teh highwayz won't be on them for that long, I don't see a problem w/ the setup.

If the Blues are like stock struts then i'd say it takes about two years for them to finally give out, my struts (that originally came with the car) gave out after 2 years.
