Explain this to me....concerning a VR6

Post below... This guy is saying beward of the VR6 which is a fast car, me and my friend have raced many times, we are dead even with the same mods. Once he had hte chip and intake, and he pulled just a little on me. Then once I got the intake I pulled past him on the highway. And the CL-S guys say we are not faster than them!? LOL!!! This is too funny.

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...threadid=56722

"Beware of GTI vr6. Actually any vr6
00 GTI vr6 chipped vs stock 02 cl-s

well we raced 4 times and he beat me all the time. All from a dead stop and he had terrible launches. I would get at least a car length a head at the green light but damn his 4th and 5th gears are strong!!!!!!

walks right through me like I'm a parked car

I have never been able to beat the damn vr6.

Now he takes me about a good 2 car lengths when i'm around 85-90 mph.

Do you guys think if I get I/H/Res/plugs/E

I could take him?

What is a good mod for high end power because our cars are really weak in that department?

The GTI VR6 is faster than a Jetta,Passat and even a Corrado VR6. Watch out for VR6 Hybrids man those are so light and super fast! A buddy of mine has a turbo gti Vr6 and is so crazy fast it is stoopid! The GTI VR6 is a great car and very fun to drive! With a chip and swiss cheese airbox with K&N it would smoke a CL-S easily out on the highway. A GTI VR6 vs a 5spd Max is a great match! Been there and done that many times!

The GTI gave me a much better run than the CL-S.

I disagree. The mkIII with chip and intake has awesome top end assuming the car is running properly! Would smoke a stock 5spd Max of any year.

I would have to disagree about smoke. The car won't do that. Even with it chipped they still are not that much quicker than a stock max.

Ok maybe not smoke but would beat the max pretty easily.

Tell him to get a Garrett (sp?) (Giac) chip. That will give him some nice gains for sure. No redline cut off. ie no top end cut off. More torque and HP throughout the curve. Always gotta use premium fuel!

Garrett chip will give gains throughout without a doubt. We have hit the cut off many times 220ish km stock. With the chip it takes off the limiter. I never said reving higher gave more power.

What size rims does he have? The 17" OEM VW rims must be heavy as well? The one I've been driving has the stock 15".

I love the GTI VR6 of all years but not all are equal! They can have major problems though. New ones supposed to have a lot more power.. wonder how much the new ones will weigh?

There's a guy w/a new VR6 Jetta on my A.M. commute, we've had a few chances to run, my '00 SE 5-speed can only pull 1 car length on him by 90+, if that much! I was really suprised! I guess a GTI would be a different story!

i raced my friend's GTI Vr6 5-spd a few weeks ago. it was from a 40 mph roll. we did it 4 times and every time same outcome. i pulled a couple cars tops from 40-90 then as soon as he shifted to 4th i started pulling away HARD. god i love my 4th gear. this was with an extra person and tools in my car too

RES is a replacement intake manifold cover for the CL and TL, its not yet in production but dynos a gain of 15hp across the powerband. E is exhaust.

I have raced several VR6 golf's and jetta's. They can never take me, at any point. Off the line i am behind by about a half a car length. then as soon as i hit 2nd, i dust him. The one i raced on the highway was even more of a walk. I was ahead by more than a car elngth all the way to 125 when we shut it down. VR6's are quick, but they got nothing on a modded VQ 5 speed.

No, cause the new GTI could be a 6 speed 1.8 turbo with 180 hp, or a 6 speed vr6 with 204hp.

Well, I have alot of respect for the Maximas. I raced a few (when I was stock) and I could barely stay in front of them. I have to admit that a moded Maxima should be a moded VR6 (with chip and filter).

But in the street, is all good. Hell, I want a Maxima for daily use!!! But the Max is a good street car, no a drag machine.

Take it easy there guy. There are VR6's in jetta's too. In fact GTI's and Jetta's share the same engines.

1st and 4th sucks on the VR6 and they are really short, 3rd is the strongest gear in the VR6 then the 5th then 2nd.

Also topend is very strong on those cars, they were built for highways especially the autoban so don't say they aren't. At high speeds the GTI has a very good performence.

Its a strong vehicle and don't underestimate them.

i used to have a 98 GTI VR6, which i crashed then a 2000 Jetta VR6 5 spd, which got stolen. now i have a 92 Max SE 5 spd. the max would take the jetta but the gti would smoke the max. all i had was an intake and a chip and that car was mean. fo real. but the gti does suck after 90 on the expressway. i am much happier on the expressway with the maxima. but the streets belong to the GTI. i also have a 92 s-er so that i have a kick *** street car and fun expressway car.
