My Maxident
UPDATE 8/18/11
Car deemed a Total Loss by insurance.
$8800 including 1100 in mod reimbursement
Well I guess it was time...last accident I was involved in was in '96.
The other driver decided to lane change without signaling (and on the phone ). I didn't have time to do anything really but brake and hold on for the ride.
He hit my front quarter, just before the tire, and drove me into the wall. Lovely
Maxima is at the body shop now, awaiting the insurance adjuster on Wednesday to tell me if they'll allow it to be fixed or not.
...anyway, on with the heartbreak:

Estimate at a G shop was like 7600 or so....it really f33ked me up since I just put a motor like 2 months before the accident...happened on July 15th at a gas station while getting gas...

You can always buy it back. But I'm sure the insurance won't even wanna touch it, especially since they're not paying. (I'm assuming that asshat got faulted)

Well yours does look a little more messed up than his. But still totalled out. Can't believe it was so much to repair. His doesn't look that bad but if it does.........I got dibs on coils and some other things.

AFAIK, there is no structural damage to my Max. I did drive it from the scene (after I ripped the bumper off). Plastic in the front fender wells came off and were rubbing on the tires which made it sound like crap.
-Suspension seemed fine.
-Alignment was off a little after hitting the wall but the car tracked straight still. I say the alignment was off because the steering wheel was turned to an angle.
-Tires were all fine, aside from the fronts having a dead spot...ABS light had been on for the last couple of weeks so I know ABS was actuated during the crash.
-Airbags didn't deploy.
I don't know...I really have mixed feelings at this point. Love the car but for me it'd almost be bittersweet as I'd love to get into a 6spd. Almost as if I were doing it over again.

Well as of right now they are deeming it a Total Loss due to damages estimated at $6,117.26...
I haven't spoken to the new appraiser but was told to go ahead and fax receipts over of my mods so they can take those into account.
(we will see)

Thank you I appreciate it.
I'm hoping with giving them mod receipts and knowing it wasn't my fault they can either go ahead with repair or do better than 'fair market value'.

Question, did you mod your hood? Looks pretty cool.
Definitely...

Well hot damn.... $6,100. Dang Last Maxima made in Japan is pretty pricey to repair.
Well hopefully they give you a good price if write off and maybe you can find that 6spd or M45.
If not Max, then Imma need those coilovers and RSB.

But, for me at least, the bad event ended up turning into a good event--my half-loaded '02 6sp turned into a beastly, fully-loaded '05 6spd.
The most frustrating part is just realizing that your car could be EASILY repaired, but knowing it's not the right move, unless you want to keep it until it completely disintegrates, because you'll never move it for anything more than pennies with the salvage title.

Well I got the insurance payment information today...she's been deemed a Total Loss Vehicle - RIP
$7700 for the value of the car
$1100 for the mod reimbursement
$8800 for my Total Loss. Better than I expected and looks great initially since I owe much less than that.
...I'll be going to the body shop on Saturday to confiscate as many parts as I can since I have replacement (stock) parts to put back on.

im surprized they even gave you anything additional for mods to begin with... im guessing they saw the wheels? and... im not sure what else they would deem valuable...
its just really interesting to see what insurance companies will do with modded cars. Glad to see you got something! thats amazing.
all of us here have modded cars and god forbid something like this happening but we all have to wonder at times like this... what would happen when it came down to it.

The way my insurance (Liberty Mutual) worked is they would reimburse anything within a 60d period. I had around 2200 in mods total.
I'm being allowed to remove any mods I want as long as I have the OEM parts to put back on. So that's a plus.
Wheels are going to be a catch though because the tires you replace them with have to be the same x/32nd's as the ones you're removing.

So is this the one you went with, Jeff? Just curious if you did - what did it cost you to get it back here (did you ship it) and what other costs were involved with registering a car from another state?
