You can pick one of these cold air intakes for $70. I plan on replacing the filter with a K&N. The filter is rather cheap quality. All the tubing is direct fit and has a fairly high quality to it.

Welcome to the forums. There are tons of CAI. So work well others not so much. I can't imagine that you searched for "cold air intake" or "cai" and did not come up with much. You can find a used injen and move the filter into the front fender. You will have to move the battery thou. You can also build your own. Make sure to use a quality filter.
Here are some

Check out Sparks03max setup. That will be my next and he built it.

Step 1: get a decent mid-pipe
Step 2: decide on a pop-charger (filter)
Step 3: couplers, clamps & adapter plates

So start with Step 1, and contact knight_yyz for one of his mid-pipes:

best intake on any maxima, other then fi of course, is a fender wall intake. Lowest intake temps by far.

intakes just make noise mostly anyways. you are lucky if you see 5whp, which isn't worth .1 in the 1/4.

False. If you know you're doing, intakes will net far greater results than that.

So you are saying a fwi isn't the best? Last thread I saw it showed much lower IA temps vs a wai.

Intakes don't make much on our engines without a tune and exhaust mods. true story. I should have been more specific, I forgot this was the org.

Intake a long wont do much alone, we all knew that. Stock has been shown to support 250fwhp on a dynojet, same goes for catback. Stock supports 250fwhp also on a dynojet.

I gained 9whp from a GAB intake, and so have 3 or 4 other members. I put a JWT POP and gained 10+whp on top of the original 9 gained from the GAB, a net gain over stock of 20+ (went from 211-233). of course I had headers which obviously help in compounding the gains.

I just assume when someone posts about 'what intake should I get' I assume they will never install headers, tune, etc. It's such a newbie questions that they will learn the rest of it searching/reading etc. Thus I don't waste my time explaining that yes with the correct supporting mods you can gain a considerable amount with an intake.

The fender wall intake has been shown to give the lowest IA numbers, please correct me if I am wrong.

I believe for 99% of the people on the org that their intake will be for noise/reving at stop lights purposes only. The # of members on here with an intake vs the # with headers and a tune has got to be something like 100 to 1, if not more.

aackshun: I never said I know everything. I do know where to place a filter to suck up the coldest air in a maxima and I know most people on here never install headers or tune.

These kinds of threads rarely end well, as soon as people start talking about HP gains from a simple intake.

The OP has some pictures and some advice. I recommend people back off and let him chew on it for a while.

But we all know there really aren't any questions about custom intake setups that can't be answered with patient reading and the 100's of threads that go over this stuff ad-nauseum.

I agree.

So, OP, are you getting the answers you wanted? Did you mean intake manifold or something else?

Why fabricate if you don't have to?

www.siliconeintakes.com is where I pieced mine together using piping from the aforementioned website, and the previously mentioned universal BPi velocity stack and the infamous LR MAF housing.

It's not that hard to fathom.

I make my own and sell them. Rochester provided the link. I even provide the dimensions in the other link mentioned in this thread in post 3.

Your questions have been answered

shorter version installed with velocity stack

same as a berk in dimensions installed no stack with standard cone filter

I've also made a few aluminum ones. Someone on the org has it. I can't remember who, but I have seen it in a post recently

thanks knight

and the reason why is because i can there isnt a real answer for that just for the fact that i would like to say i made my own intake and now if this lil project of mine dont turn out well then ill just settle for buying a brand one or something but thanks again and if you guys thought this thread was pointless sorry

I make the midpipe in 3 lengths. 3, 5 and 7 inch. The shorter pipes are for those who want a velocity stack. The 5" pipe is a right squeeze, so the 3" is for those who want some breathing room. Or if you want it louder than the standard size you can get the shorter versions. I can also do it without the breather tube if you want to keep the helmholtz

Hey Nmex, im treading carefully, I just really wanna be sure about how I'm interpreting what I read here on the org, so please be gentle. You already had headers installed and when you did the gab intake with jwt popcharger you made another 20+ hp? That's amazing, I want your set-up

So I did my research last night, and there's a couple questions I have about your set up Nmex. How did you combine the gab with the popcharger, and did you do the coat hanger or the drilled gab set up?

You don't. The GAB provides easier air-flow access to the panel filter inside the OEM airbox. A pop-charger is a cylindrical, open-air filter, un-constrained by a closed system like the OEM airbox.

These are two different things.

A related question would be, why do they call it a "pop-charger"? IDK. Anyone?

BPi stack + R2C filter is another option over the POP intake.

Ya I know the difference between the two, this post has me confused. It makes it sound like he added a popcharger to the gab. Iv seen someone add a cone filter to the front of the stock air box, so I'm not sure if he did that removing the drop in filter or what? See how I am confused?

Perhaps you're confusing the resonator with the panel-filter box. Lots of people like to retain the resonator with a SRI setup because of claims that it reduces the howling noise and improves airflow.

IDK about all that myself, but a number of people subscribe to that configuration.

No, I replaced the GAB with a POP charger, so basically tossed the airbox in the garage and put the JWT on.

This gain went from 219 - 233.

Thank you, that makes much more sense. I'm doin the coat hanger gab when I get home, and I'm gonna order the pop charger for when my y-pipe comes and I gut my pre cats.
