Cant align motor mounts!
Cant align motor mounts!
So i tried installing my ES torque mounts and Subframe Bushings on my auto 5.5.
I got the right mounts, pressed everything, nice.
Now, im trying to bolt it back up, and i cant for the life of me align the front mount! Ive tried jacking various spots under the engine to raise/lower the hole, but i cant seem to do it!! does anyone have any advice??

Weird. It's typically easy for me. I've done it 2 or3 x and each time, was easy as pie.
Lighting and good feel for feeling (
)work hand in hand.
I put the jack under the tranny, that seemed to be the money spot for the best leverage for that particular mount.

Do not bolt the 4 crossmember bolts , leave those for last.
First bolt up the mounts to the crossmember, then hold everything up and slide in the long bolt through the front mount then the rear (kinda tight but you gotta work your arm in there)
Then once those are tighted you an work the crossmember with a jack and a pry car if needed to get the front 2 and rear 2 bolts started.
g luck

oh man, thanks guys, ill try it again today, i spent the better part of the day yesterday fighting. Everything looks correct as far as the install and orientation, ill take pics in a sec just to be sure...
lol i wish, i bought a front manual mount for a 96 maxima and re used my rear mount. right now, ive bolted the rear mount to the engine, and am left with the front, gonna take a pic now to show to offset of the hole...
the last pic shows when the crossmember is dropped down, how the holes seemingly line up, however once you raise it, the engine moves again and puts it off center. IT seems its either one or the other, as far as which bolt will be offcenter. maxspeed96CT said to do the front then the back, i cant do that, so i did the back first and have the front so theres room to hammer the bolt in once it get through. I dont know what to do guys, it seems whenever i jack the engine/tranny in any direction, both the crossmember and mount location move so it seems impossible to do anything!
in this pic they line up perfectly, but once i raise the mount, that bracket relocates ever so slightly becauase the rear is attached as well... what i need to do is find a way to stabilize the engine so that there will be no movement and i'll have to push up with strength on the crossmember to have it go up, make sense? suggestions? this is painstaking

Secure engine with jack.
You need to remove the 4 crossmember bolts, mount the crossmember to the engine mounts ONLY.
Once that is done, THEN use 2nd jack to align the crossmember and 4 bolts.
Or you can loosely put 4 bolts in place so crossmember is dangling, install mount bolts and then tighten 4 cross bolts...
Use scissor jack to lift crossmember in place.
yea thats what im doin, i have only the back mount bolted loosely now and am trying to get the front. When i attach the crossmemebr bolts and try and tighten them to push the crossmember forward, the mount location moves because the engine is bolted to the rear mount...
the crossmember is hanging loosely only held by the rear mount, i jack the engine and can move the crossmember by hand.. how will a scissor hack help? to hold it in a close enough position where i can bang in the bolt with a hammer?
I don't think you're truly reading the responses. I'm not trying to offend you. I know that you're frustrated, but that suggestion has been made. Do it.
yea no worries, i meant the 2 bolts actually holding the mount onto the crossmember. I had a friend help for a bit and we almost got it... Its just a real pain.. Im ready to pay some to come to my house in hollywood, FL to do this for me lol seriously tho, any takers?

Post that request in the Ghustle thread. I think Essential1 lives close. He's got a lot of experience. He'll take care if it in a few minutes, I bet.
Alright so, 10 17pm its all over... i did... a big shout out to Dave B and his 2004 post that was in the 4th gen section

Nelledge, i guess that suggestion was made, i just wasnt seeing it the way it was said. I loosened the first bolt holding the front mount to the crossmember, and removed the second. Left both fully tightened on the rear. Bolted the assembly up, tighted the four crossmember bolts, jacked the engine up and bam clear shot for the remaining mount bolt. I feel amazing, tired, but amazing. Thanks org for makin' it possible... and Dave B (not the parts guy dave b) for going through the EXACT same problems i did. l8r im gonna go drive around now! sick
