Fed cat in a CA spec car?

I was pretty shocked to see the price difference between the fed catalytic converter vs the california one. I have a cattman Y pipe on my car so I am assuming there is no precat.

If I could get a hold of a fed spec cat, would it bolt up to my cal spec car? My local pick n pulls do not have any 2000 models so are there any other years that will swap on?

Yes I know I am not supposed to put a fed cat on.

I will bolt right up. I always thought the difference between fed and CA was the pre-cats, nothing else.

Then why are they so darn expensive? No extra O2 sensor or anything like that?

What prices have you been seeing? And if no o2 sensor should just get a Fastcat from Cattman...depending on the prices your finding...

My mechanic told me the California and federal cats were identical, and that the price difference was because the cats for California cars were mandated by the state to carry a much longer warranty than the units for non-California cars.

And the fact they have to be C.A.R.B. approved, which costs business $$$$$ to get certified with the state. Nothing "special" about the California stuff.
