Engine mounts......

I have some bad news from Nissan yesterday. I brought in my car to the dealer because of the loud buzzing noise from the engine bay. Before they were telling me it's normal, the valves are just resetting to the starting position. Now they are telling me that the engine mounts are all jacked up and I need to replace them. It's strange, after the car revs and when the RPM is idling there comes a buzzing noise for 2-4 secs. The bad part is that I'm out of warranty and it'll cost me at least 6 bills to get it fixed. And I'm 9000 miles over the warranty. I'm goin to give Nissan a call and see if they would warranty that $hit for me, since I've been charged 3 separate diagnostic charges in the past about the buzzing noise. It's ridicules. I'm so frustrated with this problem. Makes me wonder if the max is that really reliable. I'm running all stock too. No mods and do my tune-ups and oil changing on time. Such bad luck. Just hope Nissan would fix it under the warranty. Has anyone in the past experieced this engine mount failure?

Your dealer should definitely 'goodwill' the warranty fix for you, especially since you've had them diagnose it in the past. Even though they got the diagnosis wrong the first two times, it's not your fault. Before I finish, how long ago were the other diagnostics? If they've been in the last 1000 miles, you might be SOL depending on what your tech advisor's mood is like.

If you have to get new mounts, I believe I read that Cattman sells some mounts that may be worth looking at. Also, try finding a wrecked Max.

Good luck to you.

Do you have the paperwork from the service center saying that you had the car in for the same problem before? If so, that may save you. File a case with Nissan about this. You had the car in before under warranty for the same problem without them acknowledging it, and now that you are out of warranty, they say the problem exists.... sounds fishy to me.

Forget about stock engine mounts and get Cattman urthane engine mounts! If you get stock ones, they will break again! Get the stronger and firmer engine mounts from Cattman. Those things last forever! Not to mention that they will increase engine response....

Did it only make the buzzing noise while the car was in gear and you are accelerating? Did it make the noise at a standstill with throttle blips?

a cracked engine mount makes buzzing noise when you are in gear, while holding the brake at standstill. In the worst case scenario, your car will vibrate like hell.

my max has replaced in the past

I replaced it around 20k. It's under warranty, so I didn't pay anything. I think some owners did that too.
good luck!

Don't pay!

Talk to the service manager or directly to Nissan. If you had it in when under warrantee for the same problem and they couldn't find the problem, but now they know what the problem is when it's out of warrantee then you should not have to pay a dime!!!!!

I made a claim to Nissan corp already, and they have to check with the dealership about the visits I made in the past. So the customer rep told me she'll get back to me in a couple of days. Hopefully they would warranty the thing. I told them I have 3 other Nissan vehicle at home, so hopefully that'll help
As for the noise, when the car comes to a stop, idleing, there is this slight buzzing noise. Only after the car is in gear and when it comes to a stop. I also have another problem with the reprogrammed valve they did, but that's still under warranty. But for sure I want to get the engine mount fixed ASAP. Does anyone have a link or site where I can look up the Cattman's engine mount? Thanks a lot. Happy New Years to All.

So I now see. Who has these suckers? Is this a mechanic-only install, or can it be done in the privacy of my own home? Anybody? Anybody?

you can install them at home with ease...

That's only if you have an engine overhaul....

Try this link http://www.cattman.com/kyb.shtml/#umm If that doesn't work, goto www.cattman.com select PRODUCTS & PRICING and then under TRACTION PARTS you will see the engine mounts listed. Says they are for 95-01.

Good luck

$60 labor is reasonable. $80 is considered an okay deal.

If they charge you over $90, I would consider that a highway robbery!

I am guessing about 2 hours...

My friend did it at home for his 86 300ZX. It took him an entire week!
