Motor Mounts Bad?
Motor Mounts Bad?
Hey, I want to start out by saying that I did search for an answer but I couldn't find exactly the answer I was looking for.
So when my car is turned ON ( key on ignition off) and the hood is up I hear a loud whining sound almost like an electric motor running. But when the engine is turned on I cannot hear it at all. I don't know if it is because it is impossible to hear it over the engine, or I just can't hear right. Also when the key is in the on position and the hood is down, it is very faint or almost non-existent. I know the hood has nothing to do with it, but I'm just trying to describe the noise level of it.
Lastly will simply unplugging my motor mounts hurt it or give me an ses? How many do I have? 2000 gle.
Thanks for all help!

I've never ran into a car where a bad motor mount caused an ecu failure but I guess some people on the board experienced just that. You can easily unplug both (if you have two) electric mounts and see if any noise exists.
good luck.
good luck.
Well trust me on these cars if you let it go long enough with that buzzing sound and don't unplug them it will!
No it's definatley not the fuel pump. This noise does not go away. It seems to be coming from almost down under the throttle body or in that area. Is a motor mount failure an absolute guarantee that you'll fry the Ecu?
Isn't the fuel pump back in the gas tank? I'm curious about this 'cause mine makes a buzzing or humming sound too and I disconnected the electronic motor mounts a long time ago. It's not so loud, though... but quite noticeable if the engine's not running but ignition is on.
