it is very possible that it might be bearing on the belt tensioner... I had to replace mine a couple of months ago... it just got louder and louder every time I drove the car... I remember the tensioner was $20 from Autozone... with the lifetime warranty, not a big fen of their parts by the next morning I was taking on a 3000mile trip... As of now I have put about 7,000 miles on it and it is still quiet... To check that sucker you have to take it out, then spin it and then may be spin the alternator to see if the bearings inside make noise...

Sounds like your A/C compressor pulley. It will make the sound whether or not your A/C is turned on because the pulley is constantly tuning. Remove your belt and start the engine (but don't let it run for too long because your alternator isn't tuning and charging your battery) if the sound is gone it's most likely your culpret. Turn off your engine and turn the pulley by hand and see if it makes the noise. A cheap temporary fix is to buy a shorter belt and bypass the A/C pulley (I don't remember the size but it's in a thread somewhere on here). If this is the problem something has to be done soon because the pulley will sieze and the belt will snap and you will be on the side of the road.

My 2000 maxima made a similar noise at 170,000 miles and that was the problem. It's easy to replace yourself and I went ahead and replaced the Alternator while I was at it bercause you have to remove the A/C compressor to get to bolts that hold the alternator on.

Good Luck

If it is indeed your problem the part # on the belt I used is 6PK0915 360K6. Basically a 36 inch belt.
