Do you mean it screws down too far and you cant pull the ring up for reverse? Maybe a dab of glue and a little metal washer on top of the metal stick so the **** will still screw down tight, but not go down as far.

This one here? The one that has the following disclaimer...?
NOTE: Does not fit Altima or Sentras SE-R/SPEC-V equipped with the Reverse Lockout Mechanism?
Yeah, that's a shame. Maybe it's another ****, because this one is only around $70, not $95... although it certainly looks like a lollipop, and says NISMO around the lip. Lollipop? LOL

I think yours is the first sig I've ever seen that itemizes factory standard features on the SE model. Feeling the pride, man.

You needed one of these. I may be ordering one of these as the OEM one is around 80 bucks I think.

You would have to have the bottom of that **** drilled out at least 1" at the bottom and at least 3/4" deep to allow the lockout to move up. Since you have the **** already I would try and do that. Make sure not to screw up the threads of course

you can use a drill and drill a small hole in the reverse lockout mechanism, tap out the dowel, then remove the lockout mechanism

How complex is the lockout stuff? Mine is el non-function-ito and I'm tired of shooting off into space instead of hitting 5th. I'm sort of dreading the repair, as Rochester's writeup on installing the shifter bushings seemed like there's lots of patience needed when working with all those washers and cables. My 350z owning cousin says there's a plate that serves the lockout functionality, and he installed his backwards after some mod he did and 5th and 6th were messed up (unable to be shifted into or something) until he realized what he did. He wasn't sure how the FWD 6-speeds do it, though.

The lockout is just a plastic shaft that moves another smaller piece of white plastic. The white plastic prevents the shifter from moving to the R position unless of course you pull up on the lockout. then the smaller white piece is not blocking the movement.

But it's also one of those things that seems stupidly easy after you actually do it. Hindsight rocks.

Drat. That means my problem is a compound one. =/

1. Lockout doesn't work.
2. Shifter "gate" is messed up, allowing shifter to move to empty space paralleling 5th gear.

I'm crossing my fingers that something obvious got missed when they replaced the transmission in this car ~40K miles ago.

sounds to me like you'll be needing some parts... good thing my car was totaled and pretty much everything is working properly (except the rear end)
