Mysterious wires and hoses! Noob nissan maxima help!

Hello everyone! I am new to the Maxima.org forums and have very little experience with automotive troubleshooting. I'm in the process of learning (very slowly), but am completely stumped with what I am looking at here.

This is a picture I took looking up from the back, positioned to the right of my spare tire near my left rear tire. I believe that this is the EVAP control system, but I have no idea what the wire with the loop, or the two empty hoses are. I think that the loop on the wire is an old pipe cleaner or something and was put there to bridge a missing connector. I found it like that after buying it from the previous owner. My Service Engine Soon light is giving the code 0447 and while driving around the neighborhood, I can smell a hint of gas. Am I missing something here or is this what it should look like?

*By the way, I have already tried cleaning the gas cap and replacing it for the EVAP code; its still on.*

Here is a link to the rest of the pictures.

PLEASE HELP ASAP SO I CAN FIGURE THIS OUT! THANKS!

It appears this is where the evap system was supposed to be. Those open hoses is where the fuel vapers are coming from and why you have a code- you have a leak in the vacuum system. Need to head to the junkyard and pull one or prepare to fork out some $$ on an oem unit. If you connect those hoses, that should resolve the odor, but will not resolve your code. I'd also disconnect that wire and seal the plug with wire tape to protect from moisture till its fixed.

So roughly how much would it cost to get the canister? I'm sure I can find some sources online though. Do you know what the wire is for?

You can get an Evap canister from www.rockauto.com. I replaced mine - don't remember how much it costs - but much cheaper than OEM Nissan

Make sure that Rockauto part includes the control valve...almost bet money it doesn't. But better verify.

The control valve is what the harness plug connects to.

Here is a photo of my 2000 Max. The photo was taken from the side, the area between the rear wheel and the rear bumper. The front of the car is to the left.
