50% is basically see through, If you don't want to go that dark, get 35%. I had 5% and 50% windshield and now I just have the windshield tint left on to block heat from the dash and steering wheel.

doesnt work, you cant roll your back window down. so when you get pulled over they ask you to roll your window up a few inches so they can check your tint........ask me how I know

Same here, it's called a tint meter.

And from what I understand, you can't pump your own gas in NJ? Hell I wouldn't live there just because of that! And no tint at all allowed on the front windows? Jeez...

You can tint the back three windows how ever you want, I have 5% and the front can't have any legally. My sunroof has 2.5% and I backed the stock windshield tint strip with some 2.5% as well. You can get the back three done for $100 or less. With a black interior it's pretty dark and good enough for me. If you're not worried about getting pulled over then tint out the whole car and you will be fine as long as you drive normal and not at 4am.

PA is the same with tint, and those tint meters are so bogus its not even funny.

They give you readings stating you have a percentage of tint that you can't literally buy. I forget what the one report said like 23% or some odd *** number.
I guess it just stating the amount of light at the given reading

don't go any more than %30 OP and you shouldn't get too many problems.

In case you didn't know, factory glass is already slightly tinted which will contribute to the reading in addition to the tinted film.

If the factory glass has a tint percentage of 80% and you add 30% aftermarket film, the light meter by the cop is going to register 24%.

80% x 30% = 24%

The more you know.

yea, I had 5% on the front of a different vehicle and when it was read, it read 4%. Most likely cause the machine itself blocks some sun, along with the cop standing there or whatever...never got a ticket for it, but had to pull it off. I've been driving around with 20% all around now for a year and never got pulled over for it. Car is being traded in now so I wont have the worry

^^and yeah I thought about that too, what if it wasn't a sunny day when the light meter wasn't used, or the shadow of the person using it etc.... blah blah

yes i knew they were tinted from the factory, and that was the whole catch phrase with being legal if they were "tinted from the factory" but I never but two and two together. That definitely makes sense. I wish I had the report though because I just guessed 24% but it was definitely somewhere in the low 20s IIRC.

I have 5% all around mine. If you drive in phily, you really will not get any problems unless you go on south street. If you drive in abington, you will get pinched.

Had my tint for 6 months now, have been pulled over once in abington but no ticket.

In Florida, you can have 28% front, 15% rear. I used to have 15% all around, and I got pulled over by a rookie cop. He metered my windows and it registered 12% front and rear. The tint law allows for a margin of error for the meter, so I was literally borderline on the rears, and of course the fronts I got a ticket for. I've had friends for years run 5% limo front and rear and never did they get busted.

I later changed my fronts over to 30% so I won't have any more future problems. That way if I ever get scanned again, it will register at the legal limit of 28% I just don't care for the 30% because you can still clearly see through it. At least with the 15% it gave good security without it looking completely blacked out like 5% limo.

It's been 70% for as long as I can remember but they won't bother you for 35%.

In my BMW I went Limo on all the windows. Minus the wind shield of course. I got use to it but I would look at pics of my car and it was black. I mean you could not see crap into the car on a Sunny day. Somehow I got 18% percent on the Max and it does NOT seem dark at all. 50% is nothing on a Max considering how big our windows are.

50%? waste of money. go with 15% and it will fade to 35% or so in couple years.

Man, I feel bad for you guys..I've had 20% for well over a year and never had any problems with it(even when I've been pulled over for speeding) and most of the people I know have 15% and some 5% and I've never heard of anybody getting a ticket for it. Makes me appreciate Tennessee lol

This isn't true...I've never heard of a state where tint is completely illegal(though there could be) but for most states there are percentage limits. In my state you can have up to 35% all around I believe.

Even if you went with something like 50%, at least you will have protection blocking the UV rays. Most quality tints now block UV rays.

Haha good ol' Florida, To me, I believe it's how you drive and if you have something that attracts a law enforcement officer to you. My 3rd gen I had for 2 years, double tinted 15%--> no problems. In 08' drove my stock 5.5 gen with 5% tint for a year and a month, Florida Highway Patrol ticketed me, they are the worst for tickets, you can't even sneeze with your windows open next to them. Been riding from 09' to a couple weeks ago on 15% no problems, decided to take off the tint(damn things turned purple!) and go with my 5% again, but of course I have wheels and I am now lowered, within the same week of getting the tints, I get pulled, luckily only a warning, but they made a big scene like if I stole the damn car.

That cop did the same exact thing to me. What was even more stupid is that 2 more cop cars showed up just to stick their nose into the business, probably out of boredom. I must have sat on the side of the good for a good 30 minutes before I headed off after all of that nonsense.

Same here, two cops/partners did a nasty illegal u-turn just to catch up on me, shame on them.

I run 35% sides and rear glass, it doesn't look particularly dark. 50% should be fine.
