5th Gen Maxima/2004 Mustang comparison

Decent? Maybe. However, I said good shape. Something that has been maintained and taken care of properly. It took me 9 months to find my current car. 9 months. Most people don't have that kind of time, patience, and/or determination.
I also vaguely recall how hard it was for you to find a 'beater'.![Embarrassment](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif)

SOMETIMES it takes patience, but it also takes looking at all options. you can find a car for $5k in good shape, truthfully, i'm not speaking specifically on forums because some are just juiced in price, for lack of better words. you can find a good car, thats been maintained for $5k....and it wont be an auto v6 stang

I almost bought a 2003 Mitsubishi Gallant that had 56,000 miles on it. One owner car (as is the Mustang), but it just was not a car that I wanted to drive.
BTW, I've been in automobile sales management since the mid-80's. Mostly with Ford, I managed a combo Ford-Hyundai dealership for 4 years and one of the biggest Ford dealerships in San Diego for 17 years. I left the management stress game 4 years ago and since then have been a BMW salesman (BMW calls us "Client Advisors", yeah).
I have driven and have access to just about any kind of car I want, whether it is a trade-in or purchased at auction. The Mustang I bought was owned by an Asian gal who had it serviced at the dealership she bought it from faithfully. I had the car checked out twice, once by the dealership and once by a technician I know. Both told my 'buy it', at that price you can't go wrong. If I get tired of the car I can sell it and make a little cash.
I could lease a new BMW for about $300/month. Problem is I drive too many miles to lease, and if I buy one it will end up having 100,000 miles on it ins three years, making my depreciation about $10,000 per year. Sorry, that's like a $1000 per month car payment...not interested.

I'm just giving the guy a hard time, it's all in good fun...I've owned several Mustangs as well and their not so bad, but they were all V8's too...

Just saying, it is possible to find a nice used car from 5-10k (my '01 AE with almost 38k miles on it when I bought it was $7k flat cash, its in perfect condition besides the key mark, which I can probably get detailed out)
Anyway, I gotta say, I do like mustangs, but being that I'm not concerned about gas mileage (even though i drive 70 miles round trip to school 3 days a week), I would have sprung for a nice terminator cobra
I do just wanna say, a NICE used BMW would be a pretty good way to go, my mom's 1990 325i has 191k on the clock and is still running strong, I personally kind of like driving it more than my Maxima, I might even go so far as to say it shifts nicer![EEK!](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
His decision is his decision though, I wish you good luck though, have fun with it too

I may have went a different route, but I don't know, if the OP's happy w/ his pick isn't that...success?
Wouldn't be surprised if troop ends up modding to the max (pun intended), don't we all start off w/ just DD (regardless of age)?

Truth be told, there was a nice black 02 GLE on the lot as well. But it didn't catch my eye the way the sterling mist 01 SE did ( personal preference). Did the research saw the issues the 1st run 3.5L engines were notorious for i.e. oil consumption etc. vs. the 3.0L engine's legendary reliability and awards. I decided that a 1yr newer car, with 20K more miles, and didn't truly entice me. Wasn't worth the extra 1K $$$ they were asking. As you know, the bottom line decision when buying a car is a visceral thing.

Actually before I bought my last maxima (97 Maxima) I was considering a 3 Series....like a 99 or 2000....nice cars. I wanted something that I could mod...so I started looking at headers and exhausts and things like that for the BMW...DAYUM!!!! Those things are EXPENSIVE to mod.....good grief!! Not to mention if something DID go wrong you talking alot of loot to fix. I decided to pass and chose the Maxima....like I said they are nice cars...I would just buy one already fast...like an M3 or something and leave it alone.....I think that BMW is more of a status symbol anyway...people just drive them around because it says "BMW" on it and they feel "special" when they drive one. Same with Mercedes...but they been GARBAGE since Chrysler took them over reliability sucks on them now......look at consumer reports. I think Nissan has made a great comeback since 2003......they added the 350z, the new altima with the 3.5, Infiniti has also come out with nice lineups since 03 as well...before Infiniti was just the I30 (basically a Maxima) and that dam SUV truck. I gotta give Nissan props....they were dying out and revived themselves. I see tons of Nissans and Infinitis on the road now.

still after reading everything here I just don't understand.... he basically downsized for the simple fact that he will be driving a lot and may be safe some $$$ on gas??? Before I had my Maxima I was driving a 91 Accord for 2 years, I end up putting 55,000+ miles on the car for those 2 years... to be honest the "savings" in gas are not worth it... if i go easy on my 5 speed I actually get better gas millage than my honda, I am surrounded with luxury, the seats feel amazing in the winter with the warmer on
)) I can have 4 people in the traveling in style and comfort. Sure the Maxima has some issues with coils, rear calipers, a few sensors here and there but name me a car that is worry free? (except if you drive a company car
))
No way in hell I can replace my Maxima for a mustang even a 2011 model, I am sorry their are just cheap ugly and pointless.
He mentioned "a better turning radius" is he putting 33,000+ per year driving in an alley??? Sure the turning radius sucks but you just get used to it...
