HELP!! In th middle of strut swap....

My father in law and i are in the middle of a strut swap and we have the original spring fully compressed On the old struttrying to get the top hat off. However, we got the top nut off, but there is another metal/rubber round peice stopping it.

Im using Shiftice's step by step, and there is no memtion of this peice. It just states that the top hat should just "pop off".....

Any advice would be appreciated!

Is the strut shaft stuck to the bushing because of corrosion? It should just slide off, might want to gently tap the upper mount off. Be careful not to disturb your compressed spring!

bump stop is just stuck on the shaft, I'm sure you've figured that out by now.
