Close Call

I dont have a Max of my own, but one of my best friends that posts on this forum often does. It's a 2k1 SE with tons of mods. Tonight, we decide to go for a top speed run, the last one he got was right around 153 indicated...this time he wanted 155, so me and another friend drive ahead and are going to act as a screen, to see if there were any cops up ahead. As I crested the hill, i saw a cop in a spot where they rarely sit. I take off my hazards and step on the brake as soon as I see the cop, only it was too late for the Max. He passed the cop at over 130 mph indicated, exhaust roaring, and flew down the hill, took the nicely angled offramp at 90 and started ripping through backroads towards a safe place. Meanwhile, my other friend had met me at the end of the off ramp, we went to his house to see if he had made it, no Max in the garage. By the time we get to my house and call him, he was safe and sound, no ticket, no nothing....sorry if this post is long, but the story is definitely worthy of so much space, and thank God for Maximas being freak cars!!!!!!!!!

Re: Close Call

Another great adrenalin rush story.

The cop probably knew he wouldn't catch him, he just wanted to go WOT on the cruiser and get his own heart pump'n.

Wow, this thread is just screaming for a lecture.

I'll try to resist, but I have to say this...I ruined a perfectly good 1981 Caprice Classic Coupe coming over the crest of a hill too fast. A flatbed was turning into a parking lot driveway...still had its tail end sticking into the street. Launched me into the air and I did a 180 degree spin in the air and landed on the other side of the flatbed. This ripped the rear axle of my car out and "sliced" it in half. Half of it rolled across the street with the wheel and tire still attached. When I say I was going too fast, I mean something like 55-60 in a 35 zone. If I had been going 130+, that could have been the end of me.

If you really feel compelled to push your car to its limits...have your spotters well ahead of you watching for cars...not merely leading you...you won't have time to react.

Just my $.02...glad you didn't get nailed by the cop...and glad he didn't catch you running.

Even if they did, what could they do? Something like Internet-profiling. Have a list of all the people who talk about illegal street racing on the internet and be on the lookout for them? I could just see a cop pulling you over and saying, "Well, I'll let you walk this time...but you're on our list, so watch out."

I have a couple of friends that are cops, I'm sure a few of the members are cops...cops like driving fast as much as the rest of us.

What I meant was: Some people say they will race on X day at X time with X person. So cops could go there and bust your ***.

Yeah, good point. How about them hanging out on the regional forums and looking for Maxima meets. They technically can't ticket you for illegal mods while you're parked...but if they hung out about a block away, they could nail one at a time as they drove up...light bulb tickets, exhaust tickets, lowering tickets, leds, etc., etc.

That would have to be one hell of a bitter cop, though.

That was close, the cop's car is just a modified "bouncy" soft suspension cruiser with just raw power. But power is not the only thing you need to catch up to a max. By the time the cop started the car, the max would have been long gone.

hey guys, yes i do know for a fact some cops monitor the streetracing boards, i.e. pastreetracing, and nystreetracing. for this reason the person with the maxima who did this decided not to post this himself, he is on this board however and has been posting for some time. although i think it is pretty safe because the cops can't find out who you are just from an online screenname. also another noteworthy point is on other forums, i have read posts about people losing cops. once again thanks for the support though, i had no idea those 5th gens could be as fast as his car is. be safe and watch out for those cops
