Airbag light flashing

hey guys airbag light is flashing now on my wifes 2000 GLE. I took one of the seats out then put it back in then about 10 miles down the road it started flashing. I double checked and all my harnesses are plugged in. Any suggestions?

There is a reset procedure,

On no start til light flashes
Acc
On no start til light flashes
Acc
On no start til light flashes
Off

It will flash a sequence if there is an issue. Start your car, light should be off and then start to flash if it senses another issue

I have tried to reset the lgiht but it just stays on. It is not flashing any sort of code it just keeps flashing the short .5 second flash. The flashes never stop and there are no long flashes at all it just keeps going.

Mine flashes and it turned out to be my front crash zone sensor? A very costly sensor too

try disconnecting that batt.. unplug the passenger seat pump the breaks... wait 15 mins reconnect the plug... connect the batt... it should be erased..it was the passenger seatu took out right?

the passenger seat has a sensor obv. which determines wieght in the seat and seatbelt is engaged. as soon as the seat is removed and that sensor picks up on it,it will trigger a airbag light.. you may have a loose connection. not in the whole plug but an individual prong in one of the plugs? but i bet u just had the seat unplugged and turned the ingnition on at some point and that.triggered it. why did u have it out btw??

It was the drivers side. Wife lost her ring so I took the seat out and I found the wedding band inside the seat lol

How many miles on it? My airbag light came on right at the 10yr manufacture mark, roughly around 99-100k miles. Used the service manual to troubleshoot it, and there's nothing wrong with it, just needs to be taken to the dealership to have them reset it.

I have the same exact problem. I took my passenger seat out to scrub and clean the carpet under it...needed to move the car into the garage and started it then drove it in. Well, I have the seat back in and the light will flash nonstop. I disconnected the battery for about 30 mins, then unconnected and reconnected the passenger seat airbag and it still flashes. I tried the ignition + "door jamb switch" trick, but not sure if I used the correct button.

^^I found this in the 4th gen forums, but don't know what they are saying when they say the "DOOR SWITCH" or "DOOR JAMB SWITCH"...so I used the door lock button & it didn't work. Any idea what "SWITCH" they are referring to?

thanks to Geophrum's post in 2005 for the 4th gen's...the below works on a 2000 also.
in case anyone wants to know how it's done:

1) Open the driver's side door.
2) Put the key in the ignition and turn to ON (but don't start the vehicle)
3) Within 7 seconds of turning the key to ON, push the driver's side door switch button at least 5 times.(the DOOR SWITCH is the trigger switch for interior lights located next to your door latch on the car)
4) The Air Bag light should go solid...give it at least 7 seconds, and it should begin to blink a 3 second, 2 second on/off pattern.
5) Turn ignition to OFF and remove key.
6) Start vehicle, and wait for the Air Bag light to turn off to verify that it worked.

Bumping back, mine started flashing randomly today for no clear reason, going to try this tomorrow
I am kind of curious though because there was the talk of a recall, so I'll call Nissan tomorrow as well. Anyone have any insight for the recall lately though?

The front airbag crash sensor simply rotted away in my old Maxima after 9 years of Northeast winters, thereby tripping the airbag warning light on the dashboard. The sensor is right behind the front grille, and about as weather resistant as the horns (LOL). I forget the cost... $150 maybe? But the installation is a breeze. Just be sure to disconnect your battery first. (Also LOL)

If merovi is reading this, take comfort in knowing you have a new front impact airbag sensor, among other obscure things... like the fuel strainer, MAF sensor, EVAP charcoal tank, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, it fixed my flashing airbag light. The dealer wanted another $1000 to replace the airbag after I had spent $600 replacing the spiral cord. This forum rocks.
