wtf? help? lol

ran a search. didnt find much. (lately the search feature on this site has gone down the drain)

so i stopped at my buddys job today, chatted with him for a while. the car was off the whole time. i get back in the car, and it wont start. dash lights come on, i try to start it, they go off. so my buddy jumps it for me and i get to the next gas station because i wanted to fill up. and just as i get to the pump, it dies on me. i kickstarted it and got it across the st where i got a jump again. i make it home and as im backing it into my driveway, it dies again. i had to drive home with the running lights on because if i ran the headlights, the dash lights would almost go completely off. later, i went outside to get something from the car, and when i open the door, the door lights flicker very fast. just curious as to anyone else having this problem before, and whether its a short, the battery, or the alternator.

thanks.

Looks, sounds and quacks like an alternator. Autozone will check it free of charge

i figured as much, but why would the lights flicker when i open the door when the car is off, isnt that run by the battery? is it because the alternator is not charging the battery? so that might be dead too possibly?

If the alternator is not charging, your car ran until your battery ran out of juice. Now your battery is dead, but should only need to be recharged (although I have read a number of posts where members report both battery and alternator went out together, or one shortly after the other).
