Key FOB programming

Hi, I have a 2000 Maxima and I'm trying to program a new key fob to replace mine with a broken lock button. To the best of my knowledge I must insert key in ignition 8 times in 10 seconds w/ doors locked from inside, then look for hazzards to flash, put key in ACC position and then press a button on the remote. However, when I am inserting the key 8x in 10 seconds I cannot get hazzards to flash. Is my programming procedure incorrect? What can I do at this point to troubleshoot, or will my car never have a working FOB again?

Thank you!

You are probably going to fast removing the key. It only needs to be 6+ times in 10 seconds, withdrawing the key completely between insertions.

Yup. Most likely you're going to fast. It usually works after the 6th time for me. Try 6 times in 10 seconds instead.

Tried doing it much slower this time but to no avail, still can't get hazzards to flash. Anything else I can do besides bring car to dealer?

I had the same problem. Never got the hazard lights to flash so I went ahead with the rest of the instructions and it worked anyways.
