Headers noise levels

Are headers with a decent muffler as loud as a broken exhaust? The connection between the exhaust pipe and the muffler broke somehow and it's just dangling there. It drones pretty loud on the highway.

I bet its the flange.

Quick fix--Mine broke a while back, all I did was cut off the flange with a $15 grinder and cutting wheel.. And bought a short tube/pipe from the auto store and some clamps and clamped it together. I had to run a self drilling tiny metal screw in one the sides because it kept coming apart. Cost about $10 and its been quiet ever since.

Thanks for the info. It is definitely the flange. I will probably do the same thing myself because I am saving for headers.

So...about the noise level? It's not too too loud, but the drone does interfere
with my radio listening. Will headers be the same?

Wow.

Then keep the stock muffler in the exhaust. The muffler has more affect on overall noise than the headers will.

When this happened to me, I had an exhaust shop bend me new pipe from the cat going back to the factory muffler. Removing the resonator gave the exhaust a nice subtle tone, without it being loud, and it was an inexpensive fix.
