.....TunerMaxima's Sell it or Keep it Thread......

From looking at the wheel by itself, nothing outstanding, even on the car it's not flashy at all, but man, it looks good. Though, not as good on the 5th gen as they do on the 4th.

^^ SORRY Bob, this is the rim you want, I know it is, period. I meant to post this rim not the other, just wast rying to get it up quick and didn't look enough. The EV-S is the one you'd want. But you'd have to get in line, you're not the only one that wants these wheels, too bad, no more, and a used set is probably just shy of impossible to find.
These are high on my list of wants (for style) for the G35. But they're too heavy, I want something under 22 lbs

DJ's ride is a TE... so what did he do with the titanium polished 17" SE rims? Are those winter rats now?
Here's a thread for Bob... http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...t-no-drop.html
Pics of the 6th gen SE rim, and the 350z touring rims, on 5th gens with/wo drops.

The EVO-R aren't that nice at all, nicer than stock, but nothing great, it's the EV-S that I meant to post, that is effing gorgeous, as shown in my last post.
Even those aren't as amazing as some, they just suit the car very well for those who want a very nice looking wheel without being too flashy or over the top, they were also very affordable and lightweight, with perfect offsets and such. All around, a great wheel.

I've got another crazy idea kicking around my head I'd like to bounce off you guys. I'm contemplating 'spats' (at least we called them that) on the front of the rear wheel wells. I saw a set of front I35 mud flaps that might work. They're very similar in shape to the 5gen mudflaps, but concave vs convex. BTW; Before you even say it I do not like the 5.5gen/AE/Stillen rocker skirts.
I would personally sell it and get a unmolested evo 9. Mine was way more reliable than My altima 3.5 and it had close 450 awhp and 390tq meanwhile my altima makes about 250-260 whp dyno depending. I'm not interested in any of the cars you listed for various reasons as stated below:
Acura TL Type-S: FWD FWD FWD. I'm so sick of FWD. Such a crappy platform. It does look nice and has the Honda reliability but not my cup of tea.
Mercedes C230: You mentioned reliability with doing a 3.5 swap and are considering this slow, overpriced, entry level luxury car? No hate intended but no way I would ever own a base model benz,bmw,etc..
A31 Cefiro: Can't tell you anything. No knowledge firsthand on this car at all.
G35: That car has been played out to death since its debut. Hardly ever see them in NYC anymore and when I do it's a goofy looking 20 year old with a terrible spray tan. Besides you'd be in the same position concerning reliability that you would with a 3.5 swap. The new g37 sedan is pretty solid but I wouldn't buy one over a brand new 335i with the new single twin scroll turbo it has now.
Edit: Looks like im a bit late to say the least. Only read the OP and posted

That's correct. The 6th gen Maxima SE rims have a more pronounced edge on the spokes, whereas the Z rims are more rounded. While very similar, if you were look at them side-by-side, the differences would pop.
The photo's got too much light on the rims to be positive, but I'm fairly certain those are NOT the 350Z rims, they're the 6th gen rims. This is amplified by the stance, the 350's sit out more. They also look better, so if you like that picture, just go for the Z's, you won't be disappointed. Not without some kind of skirt, no.
I just want something to give a flair at the front of the rear wheel wells. To block the tire & protect the finish from getting sandblasted where the rocker rolls in. I might see if i can find some at a junkyard just for S&G, never hurts to try.

The time has come for me. I hate a lot about this car. I also love a lot about it. I am very conflicted.
First you should know I never planned on keeping the car, I actually bought it to sell it because it was automatic. Then I had a surprise baby boy, to whom I'm the sole Parent and caregiver. So given the circumstances I kept it and sold my 5 speed Coupe. I've put some work in on it, but at the end of the day I'm left with these main 5 issues:
Background: 2001 Anniversary Edition Automatic, roughly 60,000 miles, in very good condition inside and out. Mod list in Sig.
1. Steering radius bothers me, it's extremely frustrating, and with rims it's even worse (fear of scraping)
2. The steering feel and overall suspension is lacking IMO, my biggest gripes are poor cornering and sloppy steering feel
3. It's Automatic. I hate it for this. I won't go into rant mode, but let's just say if I keep it, this HAS to change
4. It's not SLOW, but it's not fast either. I really want some more out of it
5. Fuel mileage isn't great. I think I can get it better with some tune up and brake work, etc, but overall it's not great on a good day.
Now, first, I know that #4 and #5 are somewhat of a contridiction. You can only have so much power without paying via fuel mileage, especially on a 4 door sedan, which I clearly need.
Second, I am aware that #3 and #4 can be changed, and #2 to some extent, but the bulk of that I believe I've already hit with Tein SS coilovers. Keep in mind I need the ride to maintain it's civility to some extent for my 1 1/2 year old son.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that you know where I'm at with the car, I'll tell you what I'm thinking so far:
1. Buy a new car. The list of cars I'd swap to is short but includes Acura TL Type-S, Mercedes C230, Infiniti G35 Sedan, A31 Cefiro. And the G35 is going backwards in the fuel efficiency range. All would be Manual of course. I prefer RWD.
2. Buy a 5.5 maxima with a 6 speed. The availability of one in as good of shape as my current car is pretty much 0. Especially one with no rust in Canada. And one with a paint job equivalent to mine I've not seen.
3. Modify this boat some more. Either a full on 3.5 and 6 speed swap,
or a 5 speed swap. This option would be a real kick to the pocketbook, but not as much as a new car. I would have to pay someone to do this work, I have no time to do it. I am ready to pay 1-2k for the whole thing. Do you guys think I can get a 3.5 put in for that or am I stuck with the 3.0 if I want to do this swap?
I am assuming that the 3.5 and 6 speed swap is out of reach. At the end of this I still need a reliable car, no comprimise there.
And to sway myself into keeping I just bought a Cattman Catback and 6th Gen BBK from Phatboislim.... Not that it's a big deterrent either way, I can always re-sell that stuff if I have to.
Any help, advice, suggestions is appreciated. I've been pining over this one for a bit. Thanks in advance as always. A few old pics attatched for those that don't know my car.

And yes John, I did have those wheels, I felt they were WAY too big and with my drop they just did not end up looking too well :/. I may pick up another set of TE wheels though
We shall all meet up John, sorry Tuner! Yeah I worked on those TEs a bit, kinda turned out pretty meh :/ it was a first time trial project, 2 came out decent, the other 2.....well yeah.

I told you brah, all you needed was moar lowz.
we posting wheels now? I like this style, but not in black w/ machined face or chrome... but they don't come in just "regular" so you'd have to paint 'em.

'Tuner', I know you don't like the tail lights on your G35. I saw one today with a treatment like this. Please excuse my poor image editing skills but you can get a rough idea on how it looked. With the blacked out sections in body color, IIRC the red circular openings had more spacing between them. But I had a hard enough time doing a close approximation.

Who said I don't like my tailights??
Id idn't like the stock 03/04 ones:

So I installed the 04/05 ones:

I love them, they look incredible, and the LED circular tail/brake lights are sexy as heck when on.

Don't recall you saying you changed the lights, my mistake. That's exactly the look I mentioned, it looked really sharp on a black car. Yours came to mind.
I'm trying to decide between 350Z touring rims & maybe the 7 spokes. I saw the AMG styled 5 spokes on an AMG Benz. They looked bland on the car they're meant for. So at least I've got that rim out of my head.
