BBK or drilled and slotted?

Hey just looking for some opinions on ppl who have the 6th Gen BBK upgrade or some drilled and slotted rotors on there 5th Gen. Which is better upgrading to bigger or just getting better for the setup I got now.

I like my drilled/slotted set up but have yet to experience a BBK.

Slotted and drilled will do essentially nothing for street driving and even light track. Either get some better pads or get a 6th Gen set up, with blanks.

I was looking at this kit for the 5.5Gen and I would use the 6th Gen Calipers with it.

Interesting setup uses a custom made bracket and a bigger rotor so you get more pad to rotor contact. This with some SS brake lines would be really nice for daily driver.

I was considering the 300zx conversion but no one make brackets for it anymore and I don't like the way the pad hangs off the rotor anyway......this is what racing brake talks about....

Slotted rotors do nothing more than wear down your pads under normal street driving conditions.

Cross drilling/dimpling is good for dispersing of gases coming off of the pad under heavy braking...but that only happens with organic pads.

You're better off just going with a 6th gen BBK. More surface contact area = more heat generated = more stopping power.

I just unwrapped this today, thanks Slim!!

I also just lifted the 6th gen Rotors, and IMO, Drilling/slotting would be worth it's weight in weight savings alone!! Those bloody things are ridiculously heavy, I am sure the braking performance difference will be huge, but I am also sure that my acceleration is going to die with those bad boys on there.

Any decent lightweight options out there?

Lightweight BBK = Z32 aluminum calipers & two piece rotors.

Same here, they stop way better than 5th gen blanks that's for sure, I know the 6th gen BBK will do better but I would like to get that Z32 set that Cef mentioned....

Thanks 'Cef. Well I have the 6th gen BBK now, so I guess I'll do some hunting over in the 6th gen forum for light weight options if there are any. Ima run these heavy blanks till they're toast first anyways.

even w/ bad shifting and a finicky throttle i ran a 14.9 w/ the BBKs, i really dont remember feeling that much of a difference w/ them...at the end of the day i still averaged abotu 24-25 MPG and still peaked at 30 mpg w/ it

Had them all d/s 5.5 gen rotors is all for looks. Then 6th gen calipers and blank rotors. Which to me was a great upgrade. Then nissan 4 piston which was overkill. i dont race so sold those and went back to 6th gen. Brakes are easier to find and also a wide range performance pads.

Cheapest route
-new blank rotors
-good performance pads (ebc,hawks,axxis)
- most important change brake fluid. A complete flush.

Most expensive route
- 2-4 piston nissan calipers or wilwood
- mustang or 6gen rotors
-corresponding pads
- brackets
-ss lines

buy this kit and use the 6th gen calipers.....13.7lbs....2-piece rotor set. Better than that 21 lb Olympic plate MACK truck rotor from the 6th gen.....

^ That's a cool set-up, a bbk upgrade for the 6th gen bbk upgrade, wonder how it performs compared to the 4 piston setups.

13" is biiig.

Either way no good for me as i need to run Winter tires on the Brake kit, that's why I went with the 6th gen kit. Cant go bigger.
