Peeling out questions
I revved the engine to 3000 rpms and let go of the clutch. It peeled out really nice but it wasn't so smooth. Underneath the car there was loud knocking that I could feel and it sounded like my chair was being pushed back against the locks. You know...if you move your seat back while barely lifting up the seat lever it makes that click click click noise. Peeling out was like this but it was more of a loud knocking feel and sound. Is this normal or am I killing my clutch?
what are you doing to drop so many d-shafts? neutral drops?

DOM,
It depends on what surface you were peeling out on, and on top of that its just drivetrain vibration you felt. I guess at 3000 rpm drop it peels out, but just on a fine line of traction and "spin"
BTW....don't do it too much. Your local technician will thank you for it. Maxima driveshafts are a ***** to replace. I should know, I've done my 4th Gen's 6 times, and my 5th Gen's once already and my 5th gen has 17K miles.
Heh.
Enjoy the drive, and have fun.

Axle hop
That called axle hop or axle tramp. What is happening is the compliance of the suspension and the tire are letting the wheels bounce on the pavement as they spin. This causes a "bouncing" load on the transmission and engine, causing them to bounce around in their mounts. The common solution to this traction problem is stiffer engine and tranny mounts along with stiffer suspension bushings to allow less compliance.
Do you have a Y-pipe?
It might be wheel hop... due to soft "liquid filled" engine mounts or if you have a Y-pipe... it might be hitting the bottom of your car, you need to shave off that piece of the bracket that hits the car.. Mine does it all the time... I think I am going to shave that stupid thing this weekend
I do have a Y pipe on the car. The sounds were pretty loud though. Could the Y pipe make that much noise? The car didn't seem to be bouncing at all...I don't think??
The pounding was more like 7 noises per 5 seconds

Yep!!! it's the Y-pipe!
I bet you it did not do that before!... It's more noticible when you are making a turn and you give it some gas. Try it!
Look under the car at your Y-pipe there is a metal bracket towards the middle of the pipe... the top is hitting the bottom of your car... it's because the y-pipe has a shorter FLEX PIPE.. so it's stiffer than the factory. Don't worry it's fixable... but it sounds like something is going to fall off huh? Just fix it before your friends hear it and embarrass you just when you are trying to show off your new found HP!!

So is this piece broken? I just put it on 2 weeks ago!! Plus about the Y pipe, I put those stock shields back on the car over the new Y pipe. Is this robbing any HP? I do not feel any gain from the Y pipe. Is this because of my 18 inch chrome wheels?(too heavy)
Thanks
Thanks
No and Yes
No it is most likely not broken... it's just that Nissan made the factory pipe to have a flexible pipe between the engine and the exhaust system so you would not get all the movement to go to the exhauset sys. but when you upgraded to the y-pipe... performance was their first priority so.... they did not do a very good job on the fittment, but it's fixable... it's the bracket that sticks outside the y-pipe. in the middle go to ( http://www.stillen.com ) and look for the off-highway downpipe. you can see the little braket in the ceter of the y-pipe sticking up... that's it. just grind it a bit on top.
and yes, when you add larger wheels, specially if they are heavy.. they will rob power from your car.... it takes mor power to sping those heavy S.O.B.'s

how old are U guys.. damn I never do peelouts. I use to B4 but now a little older and I know if I break it I gotta pay for it. Also If U do a peelout and your car starts to bounce. Let off the gas, Bounce means BAD
: In due time U will break something if U keep letting it bounce. I don't peel out but sometimes when I take off fast my car also tries to bounce but I think thats b/c I run 44lbs of air in my tires, but I let off when it does that. Also it might try to bounce if U have tires that are dry and wet. meaing if U go over water, Dry and wet might make it bounce. My advice don't drop clutch too much.

You don't do peelouts..... but you get your car sliding on a dirt road for a Picture? uhhmmmm?
Re: Who are you?
Are you the same guy who owns the black max on your sig?

So do I need to fix my Y pipe? I am probably never going to peel out again. Since I won't do it again do I still need it to be fixed? When I watched the installation it seemed as if the pipe fit on perfectly?

Yes, you need to grind that part down a bit so it clears when you have engine movement.... NO BIG DEAL!... Problem solved.
Am I going to have any problems with the way it is when I drive regular? Is this possibly why my "service engine soon" light came on? I am a retard when it comes to anything mechanical on my car. How can I fix this and where can I take it to get it done? BTW, since it might not be sitting right, is this robbing me any power?
