It wouldn't handle very good with that combination. If you have 4 why only do 2? Think about when you corner. your fronts would be stiff and the rears wouldn't. It would almost sit back making a sharp right and then your front left wouldn't have the weight on it that it should. Replacing only 2 is never a good idea, unless of course you only have time to do 2 and will do the other 2 shortly there after

He forgot to mention it's because he has a huge subwoofer box in the back, and if he goes any lower, he'll rub to holy hell.

Housecor ran Progress springs in the front of his car, and stock springs in the back on Illuminas with no issue.

If you're just looking to balance out that atrocious front wheel gap with the rear, lowering just the front isn't going to hurt the car. It's not like he's doing it to go racing with, guys.

Personally I would not want to mis-match springs. If you want to experiment with ride heights, get coilover's.

It may look Okay, even good. But wouldn't handle as well as it would with all four matching.

Depending on how much stiffer a replacement front spring would be, it can cause it to understeer like a ***** fawker, especially when it's raining. The inside front tire would also unload alot easier/quicker as well. This could pose a safety issue. It probably could be alleviated with an aftermarket rear sway bar. It would require doing some testing to get the setting right, but it would take some trial and error to get it dialed in.

I've always lived by "do it right the first time, or don't do it at all" so as I've said already, I'd save up the money and get coilovers.

If you just want to level the front out I don't see any reason not to just drop the front. However I don't understand why you would do the struts and put the stock springs back in then choose to change out the springs.

IIRC He had progress springs all around, took them off for w/e reasons, and then only ran H&R on the front.

Considering the pics on housecor's thread don't work anymore, here's a pic off of his website:

That's stock rear and H&R fronts.

More pics are here:

The tires? I'm assuming factory tread, considering they look like Potenzas...

When replaced my struts/springs with Eibachs + Gr2s, I did the front first, then did the rear a week later. I remember the handling being much more crisp and felt safer in the curves with the front only compared to all stock. Also I kind of liked the look. The rear fender gap isn't too bad with stock springs. Having the front alone dropped gave the car a much better look... so to answer your question, I think it's okay to change the front only, but if it was up to me, i'd do all four.

Just not a good idea to do only the front end, hell I have that big sub-woofer box in my trunk and I lowered on S-Techs on KYB GR2's with 235x45x17 and have never rubbed anything.

I ran this way for almost a year. H&Rs up front stock int he rear. Worked fine.

H&R front Stock rear, stock struts, 235/40/18 tires (Go 255/40/18 it fills the gap better and the ride is soooo much better)

So you didn't have an increase in understeer with a stiffer spring rate up front?
