That's a PITA, I'm so glad I didn't make that mistake. Cheers.

Well, you aren't going to see anything on your old clutch. It is on the flywheel.

And I'm almost positive that is the same. Same engine and all. My 96 is an auto so I'm not 100% sure.

Add grounds first.

Im pretty sure that nearly 100% of every individual coilpack engine in existence has a flywheel mounted timing ring, im sure there are some funky exceptions out there but the VQ isnt it.

Checking back on old threads I made and i'm glad this one helped some other people out!

Too bad it didn't help out my in-laws' mechanic. I'm literally doing the exact same thing I did 7 years ago, as their family mechanic made the same mistake and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Awesome.

Hello everyone!

I'm having this same issue with my 04 6mt and came across this thread looking for an answer hopefully. I pulled out my tranny for a rebuild, after my input shaft bearing got trashed and gear oil spilled all over. I installed new flywheel, clutch and pressure plate (luk) and put tranny back in. Now it won't start. I didn't sand the matting surfaces and going by what some of you have posted I added (3) 2awg grounds. 2 to the bell housing and 1 to the intake manifold, but it didn't help. I also changed the battery because it was cranking a bit slow and also didn't help. The crank position sensor is new and I only get a code if I cranck it with it disconnected, but I try also with the old and same thing. I checked the fuel pump and it's also working. Also nothing got pinched on install. The car was sitting for about a month and a half while I got the transmission done and waiting for parts to arrive from overseas. The only thing is that only 3 times it has made a fake attempt like its going to start, but nothing. Could something gotten damaged from the car sitting that long? Any other pointers? Sorry for replying on this post and thanks in advance!

Grounds on the bell housing does not help.

they need to he on the engine.

Try an expriment.

attach a battery jumper cable to a bolt on the engine. Attach the opposite end to the negative terminal of the battery. If the car starts, you have a ground issue.

Of course you also need

a battery which is charged.

clean battery terminals.

clean cable reminds which attach to the battery.

sometimes the engine and frame grounds from the opposite side of the battery negative cable corrode and cause problems.

oh yes you need to clean any corrosion where the large positive wire attaches to the starter.

Hello again! Tried it but nothing happened. I pulled all front plugs individually and got no spark in neither one. Only code I'm getting is an old pending code p0340 but that shouldn't prevent the engine from starting right? It has had that code for a while now, even after replacing the front cps. Any other thoughts?
