Burning oil?

Hey all, have an issue as of late with my max. lately i've had to add a quart of oil about once a month, if not more often, to my engine. i haven't noticed puddles, so i'm assuming the oil is burning off somehow. thought i'd ask if there was a pattern failure on the 5.0 gens that could cause this, so i can at least look in the right direction. thanks in advance.

Nope, very rare for a DEK to burn oil.

You mentioned about a month, do you know of the actual mileage interval? Everything else maintenance wise seem as if it's in good shape?

that's what i thought. very rare for the 3.0. as far as mileage im not really sure, i can tell you i drive about 25 miles to and from work every day, so let's say around 1000? and yea, everything else seems fine as far as the engine is concerned.

Checking the 710 while it has been sitting overnight on a level surface?

Also, do you actual record or somehow document how much 710 you put in and how much you remove when you change it?

I think 710 is OIL written backwards and upside down.

also forgot to mention, the exhaust isn't blue... so if it is burning it isn't burning alot.

Did you check under the car for any type of small leaks? I have two small leaks on my engine which aren't worth fixing just yet as one is related to a rear main seal leak.

def. check the rear main seal. it might be leaking and splashing all under your car on the highway but probably won't drip fast enough to produce a puddle when parked overnight.

It is easy to spot, just look past it down the length of the car. You'll see a nice dirt/grease buildup behind it if it is leaking. This is exactly how mine looks. Not dripping enough to leave a puddle, but there is a nice stream of grease/dirt behind it.

couldn't that also be contributed to an upper oil pan rear lip seal leak seeing as how there are right on top of each other?

It could be coming from your oil pressure sending unit. I had this problem on my 97 and a friend of mine had the same issue with his newly acquired 2000. Real simple and inexpensive fix too, good luck.

Hell, don't most 11+ year old cars leak fluid at one point or another? I'de say you are still within limits.

My leak is not bad enough to require me to add oil between oil changes. I'm on a 3,000 mile oil change interval.
