Lowering the Max-Your Spring/Strut choice

As a Maxima owner I bet you're aware of just how beautiful your maxima is in every way, except the ride height. It's finally time for my maxima to become the all around stud he deserves to be so I'm looking for opinions on the best drop with good ride quality. I live in a pretty rural area and our roads aren't the greatest so I'm not looking for anything too aggresive.

Please provide specs for your drop and even pictures if you got em. I do have a budget, but you pay for quality and that's what my Maxima deserves so all brands welcome!

Thanks

Go with coilovers. Get some Tein SS' or BC's.

Sport of comfort? That would make choosing the right set-up easier

Sport of course. I didn't know there was a comfy side of lowering.

Thanks Chris, but that's a little out of my budget. Unless I take out a student loan earlier than planned, that was gonna be for the turbo build though. LoL

If you look at the cost of a proper strut/spring set up and the cost of coilovers it really isn't that much of a difference in cost but the choice is yours.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

3" drop. What is the ride comfort in a car that low in the city or bumpy roads?

At least?!? Do you realize how drastic the difference in suspension performance/reliability is with that extra inch or more drop? Plus, your avatar says you have a 4th gen. Completely different animal. I'm going to be completely honest with you. Your off-the-cuff advice without any qualification is horrible. Keep it to yourself.

I'm more about function than form. a 3inch drop is way too low. Tien S's gp 2.2 and I think it looks pretty good.

About the price thing, I doubt they'd equal the same. Tien S coilovers are about 1200, I'm sure I could drop my car using brand name parts for less than that.

Well you said you wanted comfort so those and BC's are probably the most comfortable but there are cheaper coils.

S-Tech's suck. Don't bother with those springs.

Sorry if there was confusion but I'm definitely NOT worried about comfort.

There's Nex coils for $799 shipped.

New struts, springs, dustboots/bump stops and struts mounts will probably cost you almost the same.

Ground Control sells a relatively cheap coil sleeve set-up for the 4th gen and thats what I have paired with KYB AGX's. If you go through GC then you can request a specific spring rate which is pretty neat. THird party sellers of GC's already have the spring rate that they have no there is no choice. If you don't over-lower it then its a good option for better than stock but cheaper than good CO's which are expensive. My 4th gen fender height is 26" almost exactly on all four corners. Try to luck out and scour the classifieds. Sometimes a set of high end CO's come around for a good deal but will still be expensive even used. GL on the suspension you will be happy with the performance over stock no matter which route you take.

1. There are TONS of threads with pics, websites, descriptions of ride.

2. Everytime someone says comfort just remember thats subjective. I might not think comfortable or sporty is what you think it is.

3. I have GR-2 struts with H&R springs. Its like 1.25" (thats mild) drop at the most. Considering my stock setup had over 100k, the comfort and sporty feel BOTH increased. You can look up pics of this drop all over.

4. If I had to do it all over again I would get coilovers. All the parts I purchased were not THAT short of a set of coilovers. Just sayin...

5. ONLY a 3" drop?? Thats signifigant IMO.

If your axels can take a 3" drop then its not fun. You have to drive around very careful and a single pothole can ruin your entire front end. Its risky but that doesnt mean its cant be done. With a good set of CO's you can eliminate any wheel gap. Dont know about 3" though, thats extreme on our cars. Ill leave that kind of drop to the Honda crowd

I agree with that. I understand comfort, trust me. I'm in a 240 on coil overs all day.

I'd just rather go a more affordable route with the Maxima. Those 800 dollar Nex's are within my budget though. Anywhere I could find more info on them?

As for the install, yes most likely. My friend and I have quite a bit of experience around cars and engines. I can admit that I've only done one other suspension.

If your on a budget and cant afford coilovers, go with kyb gr-2's paired with eibachs springs. I have that right now and love them. It gives a mild drop with some comfort

I was looking at the Eibachs, the 1.4 looks really good, and the handling is guaranteed. But how about the KYB-AGX's? They have adjustable rebound rates.

We're SOL for the AGX on 5th gens. Brian used to mod the 4th gen application, but he only did that temporarily until adjustables(Illuminas) came out from Tokico.

Good Luck, had Tokico Blues and Eibachs it was a good ride....looked about here VVVVVV, but should of went 245/40/18s to kill the gap a little more, but ride got totaled...

About the 240, it does pretty well over speed bumps. As you can see the muffler is in pretty good condition. Of course some slowing down is required.

I was able to find sprint springs that were BNIB, tokico HP blues-BNIB, and then a set of camber bolts... All said and done, less than $400. I am very happy with the stance (roughly 2" drop) I dont really scrape on most speed bumps and the body roll was reduced SIGNIFICANTLY. The ride quality really didnt deminish as much as i expected either.

Oh look, ANOTHER SUSPENSION THREAD.

Don't get S-Tech. Too low, awful ride.

I'd get H&R over Eibach. Much more comfortable, similar ride height.
