Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to Maxima.org

Quick and fun car to drive? Well, you'll get many different opinions on that since it's all subjective.

As with any car, mods can be done to it to make it faster, handle and stop better. The aftermarket isn't as strong for Maxima's as your Jetta, but there out there.

With 227HP, it will certainly be a fun car.

Thanks man, I can tell the aftermarket isn't as strong because I couldn't really find a great parts website, but I'm hoping the maxima is a more stable car and sturdy then my jetta. My jetta feels like im driving a tin can and i've paid more in repairs then I paid for the car. For the 2001 is there a good amount of bolt on parts out there?

lol you can expect that from VW's. Although I have not owned a 2001 maxima or any 3.0 maxima, id say go for the 02-03 6spd, I love mine

I'll tell you about my experience. Welcome to the site first! I looked at an 03 6-spd and my 01 AE 5-spd and yes, the 01 is slower, but IMHO, it's not SO much slower to warrant not getting the AE. For one, you get rarity, and rarity is always good in my mind. Two, the AE's have all this other stuff that most all other Maxima's don't have, like the AE body kit, the smoked AE headlights, Maxima door sills, a VLSD from the factory (that's a HUGE upgrade), perforated leather (although if it hasn't been meticulously maintained it kinda sucks), and 5 more HP than any other 01. The 6-spd was fast, but it was a 1-wheel-peel queen! Now I suppose if I had found an 03 Titanium with the Meridian package and a 6-spd, I would probably have bought that, but for considerably more I imagine. Also, the VQ30DE-K doesn't have the oil-burning issues that a lot of the VQ35's have. It's mostly an annoyance, but it's there. I say go for the AE, especially if it's nice and well taken care of. You'll really enjoy it methinks!
