VIAS silenoid

So I took my car to the dealer to find out why it was hesitating from 2000-4000 rpm. I just got a call back and they said it is because of the vias silenoid fail and not letting the right amout of air get through. Would the vias block off plate solve my problem or do I need to pay the dealer to put in the new one for 350 dollars?

If the "hesitation" is the result of a faulty vias, the yes, a block plate will resolve this issue.

If the solenoid is failing, it will throw a SES code. The VIAS valve itself doesn't do this, the little solenoid does. So even if you get a block-off plate, you won't be eliminating the SES.

Just saying.

Good point Rochester. I was going to mention that but didn't only because no SES light was mentioned in the original post. So, the BoP should resolve the issue.

the shop showed me the solenoid located under the engine cover that was not working, should I replace the solenoid or will the BoP fix it?

Obviously even the bad solenoid is telling the ecu it is connected and receiving a signal to do something.....it's just not doing it properly.
Get the BoP and you will need to keep the solenoid connected - just like everybody else.

Actually, if you don't have any other mods on the car, I recommend replacing the solenoid. Unless there's something compensating for the low-end loss of torque after removing the VIAS valve, you're not going to like it.

so should I get Thermal Intake Spacers to compensate?

Well... yes. That's one approach.

But if you're thinking about a VIAS-delete so you don't have to buy a new solenoid, or if you're considering the BOP because it's an easier fix than otherwise, then buying Phenolic Spacers is a HUGE leap of reasoning. There is a wealth of information on these mods here in the Org. I think you should start reading up.

Or simply replace the solenoid and drive your car. Mods aren't for everyone, my young Cuban friend. Most people just want to drive and not tinker, and that's totally OK.

As stated by Rochester if the VIAS soleniod is not working you are going to throw a code so simply replace the VIAS butterfly with a block plate is not going to resovle anything ... but you said you have no SES light showing hence no code I have to ask is the SES light working? or bulb out? Knowing that the Soleniod not working will throw a code and your SES light is working just fine I have to question the shop that told you the soleniod was broken and in need of re-placing.

Yep. Mine was pending. Replaced the solenoid and all is well. No more pending/stored code.
