Unknown rear suspension clunk
Unknown rear suspension clunk
For the past few weeks I have been noticing a clunking noise coming from the rear drivers shock area. It usually occurs when I am turning right on uneven roads where the suspension has to travel. However, when going straight or to the left over uneven roads it doesn't make any sound.
Could this either be something possibly broken involving the anti-sway bar or some other suspension part?
My car has almost 160 thousand miles and far as I know it has the original struts since it was mainly driven on the highway.
Just looking for ideas before I give up and take it into a shop.

It could be the shock absorber itself. Shocks & struts wear out between 80 to 100K. It could also be a rubber bushing worn out and that could be any bushing, such as strut mounting, trailing arms, the mickey mouse anti sway mechanism.
Mine does the same thing. usually when entering or exiting a driveway. It's been like that for several years and I have not taken the time to see what it is.
Keep me posted when you find out.

rear end clunking
Put in new struts front and rear and have clunking noise coming from the rear I made sure everything is tight on the rear struts and my exhaust hangers look good. What else should I be looking at that could possibly be worn out? 2002 SE. Driving me nuts, looking for some ionssuggest
strut cylinder probably went through the bump stop. Need to add a washer. Take a look at it, is it abnormally high? All you should see is the nut. If you take it apart and slide a washer on first and THEN put the bump stop back on it will eliminate the clunking I am sure

Thanks for the response - I am not understanding what you are describing. The bump stop end is attached to the bellows, which I slid onto the strutshaft. I should put a washer on the strut shaft before I put on the bump stop? I put it all new parts back just like I took them off (Struts, Bellows, Bump stop). There was no other washer. What do you mean, is the bump stop abnormaly high? I haven't looked yet, but don't understand.
