True CAI Saturday Project

So spent the day doing the Battery Relocation and true cai. I used a $60 eBay intake for the 6th Gen for the piping. Used a coupler as the stencil for the hole and if you have a stock intake there's a rubber cover that's on the engine side of the maf pipe, this can be used as a perfect gromet for the hole in the fender. The filter is my stillen popcharger and it fits just behind the fog light. I love the new look and after driving it for 5 mins afterwards I can say I'm satisfied with the performance.

After

Looks good man. Make sure you have your splash guards on underneath to avoid sucking in water

I'd say the power is the same from before. The big difference is that the car used to really pull from 5k rpm to redline but now its starts to pull at 4k rpm to redline. I'm sure if I had a high rev engine, this wouldn't make much of a difference, but since I'm on the ****ty 4-at I think this gives me an increase of (usable) power. I haven't driven it in the hot sun yet so I haven't been able to look for a difference from the wai's heat soak problems, which don't let any one lie to you, I liked my shortram set up (not pictured) but that thing would get hot under the hood even after my nwp spacers.

Im probably going to get a k&n drycharger cover if I see that water is spraying up there but all splashguards are there

Long tubing??? Good install! Glad you got it! I've had not so good luck with long intakes @ the track on the VQ35! I'm shooting to do a heatshielded setup for my Hybrid SRI!

I was running a short ram for two years, the power is there but I can't go running my car at 5k plus rpm all the time, not with gas at 4.20 a gallon.

Looks good. I thought about doing something similar to my car since the 3.0 De-K benefits from a longer intake runner.

I can dig it. Nice job. I would get the little bag cover too just in case. Ive known people who never had a problem with water and then Ive heard horror stories so I guess play it safe you know?

Looks awesome. Did you have to modify the piping at all? What does it sound like?

No the only thing you gotta do is cut that little tab that u see on the picture. Cutting the perfect whole will take a lot of guess work. I cut it a bit too long so its not a clean every pipe meets together perfectly. Type of fit but it can be done by adjusting the location of the fender wall hole.

This mod is sick, I have seen someone else do it but he sent his pipe down into the fender wheel well.

I have headers test pipe and a Megan catback, I have no idea what the intake sounds like over the exhaust.

NICE work man,

This is exactly how I was going to do mine. But if I were you, I'd be raising it upa s much as possible, it's preeeeetly low. And the 3.5 wants a shorter intake as well, so as short as it can be while still being in the fender is safest for your engine, and best for power.

HUGE kudos for getting this done dude, most don't have the *****, but this is how it's done!! Grommeted and everything, very, very good sir.

That could be easily done but I didn't want to hack the pipe up on a rushed set up. Ill prob only move it up if I see a problem with water. The pipe is so long I don't think cutting it 6" is gonna do a ton of help.

Thanks for the support fellas, to those who are iffy about this mod, the battery relocation is cake, don't be scared about cutting into the fender, with a dremel it cuts the thin metal like butter and if u want to go back to stock, the battery holder can be be put back to stock and it'll cover the whole.

thought about doing this myself. how long did it take you to cut the hole? I remember cutting a hole on my integra to run intercooler piping and it was a pain in the ***.

what are you using to hold the battery down?

That part of the fender wall is really thin. Took me about 15 going little by little with the dremel

Look for the battery relocation writeup that's on the how to section.

6" is a lot in a intake calculation/tune. And considering you're quite a bit longer than the 3.5 intake should be ideally, you need every inch you can muster.

Waiting for a hydrolock to occur before you do something isn't a very good idea

Perhaps the best advice I have seen from this man. Do not wait and see if water is a problem. That is like waiting to see if my car burns oil by waiting for the engine to blow.

Dude with the amount of rain we get down here??? Nice work meng but I'm keeping my intake up high. The optimal length for the intake has your air cleaner right beside your battery. I forgot who did it. The thread is call something like "Short ram intake rethink it". What did you use to make the hole again? A big hole saw? The cut looks clean.

You could 2 stage it, by running a shorty and have another pipe pointed at the filter. This would result the best of 2 worlds. I ran this same setup but my MAF went, so I went back to the shorty. It was during hurricane season in Florida...and there was lots of standing water.

Setup looks beautiful. In respect to a comment about gas prices. I'm happy with 93 @ 3.87 or so here in South Jersey, gotta love the fact that NJ has a boat load of Oil Refineries. I travel to NYC all the time and to tell you the truth I don't think I have ever spotted a gas station they are few and far apart which attributes to your higher gas prices. Here in South Jersey if there is a gas station on one corner there is ALWAYS one on the opposite corner.
