Hey guys been long time I haven't been on this org. I haven't been driving my Maxima in a long time since been driving around my Jeep GC. Since I have 78k miles on the odo, i realized my car been 10 years old since I got her new. My question here that I'm going to do a lot of fluid changes, and change hoses. more specially the WATER PUMP. What I like to know does nayone had any experience changing the water pump without any difficulties. I seen the cover on the timing it look like access is very tight. Any suggestion or input would been appriecated since I dont want to wait til the time the water pump blows. Just doing something preventative so i know I'm good for another 100k miles to go.

Is it leaking? If it aint broke dont fix it. Flush your old coolant out with distilled water and replace coolant with non-silicate coolant. Drain and fill until all you get is clear water.

agreed...if it's gona leak it'll leak, if you dont have a coolant leak by the passenger tire, leave it be

Also, the coolant pump on a Maxima VQ30 rarely "blows", meaning it is a gradual process of seal deterioration. When it does begin to leak, you will have plenty of time to plan your repair. As long as you keep the coolant topped off in the meantime, no worries.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and replace the transmission as a preventive maintenance. You don't want to wait until it blows and leave you stranded on the side of the road... Might as well replace the engine too while you are at it, you just never know...

What about the body rust? Isn't that is the first thing to go on our car? I think he should put the new body on it while replacing the engine and the transmission as a preventive measure.

What about your jeep then? I'm no jeep specialist, but I wonder what kind of preven(ta)tive maintenance you could do on it... I know it's newer than your maxima, but you seem to have time and money to spare. Hang around and I'm sure someone will give you some advice on something to replace on the Jeep.

Generally, water pump does not die without warning. It starts leaking before it will die completely. That is why people generally do not replace it as a routine preventive maintenance. Alternator on the other hand can die pretty much without any warning and could leave you stranded. I have not looked at the video but my impression is that water pump is being driven by the timing chain and replacing it is not going to be trivial. Once you are there, you will be checking the chain and roller and the tensioner etc. It would a major service.

That is why OP is being ridiculed.

LOL, good lord, replace the body or transimssion, u are all insane. As far as the Jeep it's been pretty much reliable as my maxima, cuz the Jeep at the time was built by Mercedes. So no complaint here but could wish the 5spd auto would be quicker off the line, unlike our Nissan transmission is much quicker.
