New guy- mod question

Hey guys, well Im happy to be a member here.
Just got my self a 2003 maxima, 6 speed, completely stock as far as I can see.

I know that there are a lot of threads about mods but I the questions that I wanted to ask are:
1. I want to get coilovers (will I need to get any extra parts such as camber kit, etc) which ones to get, the best place to get them, and how dramatically does it affect the ride in general? (I've never had coilovers on any of my other rides).

2. What bolt on mods can I get for the engine? best place to get them from.

3. Exhaust mods in general if any? (suggestions for good systems add some power that don't produce drone in cab) and where to get the parts from.

Also an off topic question, did all of maximas 02-03 had HIDs from factory? (always wanted to know this).

Thanks

I am running D2 coilovers and they are pretty good if you set them right. They have camber adjustment on them.

The best place for bolt on mods are from NWP Engineering, Aaron has great mods that work and great prices.

For intake and exhaust, look around on the org, there are too many options to list, and yes HID's came standard on our Maxima's.

I grabbed mine off of ebay for $800 shipped to Canada, and I have put about 5000kms on them and they still feel great. And they are completely rebuildable if anything goes wrong with them.

Best coils for comfort (well the SS are.) Handle pretty good too. But I believe there are better coils if handling/performance is your sole goal.

If you get Tein SS, don't slam them. They'll blow out. Set your ride hide modestly with them.

Rods03max619 pretty much got it covered.

As far as power mod bolt ons go:
For Headers:
If you don't care how much money you spend, you can go with Cattman for perfect fitment.
If you want to save money you can go with OBX headers on ebay for alot cheaper.
If you don't want to use any money, you can go with Gutting your cats which has proven to have good gains as well.

For Exhaust for max power, get a 3":
If you don't care how much you spend and want minimal drone and max power, go for a 3" from Cattman.
If you want to go with a smaller resonator and save a bit of money you can go with a 3" from BRM.

You can get some Intake Manifold Spacers and a Block Off Plate from NWP or CJX.

You can make your own intake but it is recommended to use a SRI setup. If you want a true CAI set up, you'd have to relocate your battery and cut a hole.

BOP a.k.a. block off plate...

http://www.nwpengineering.com/index.html

You do get good gains with headers and a 3" cat-back.

You can put a pop charger on it if you wish. I prefer to use a dry flow filter myself. I have an Apexi on mine, but AEM will work too.

You should really stop giving out b.s. advise. This is why people don't like you and think you're the clown of Maxima.org. Then again, if you weren't like this it would be a much better place.

OBX needs to have the Crossmember grinded a little sometimes...

Exhaust Drone probably all have it...

Did I notice a gain from a full exhaust upgrade, Yes Major

Start easy with a BOP plate, NWP intake spacers and cat-back.

The coil overs and headers can run much more expensive, especially if you have to pay for the labor. Remember that headers(while they are your biggest HP improvement) will NOT pass emissions and you'll need an O2 simulator to trick the computers to pass the emissions text.

Also, be sure to check for other mods on the forum like the short throw shifter mod, ghetto air box and so on.

here is my set up with OBX headers, SRS cat back(2.5") intake and more. It sounds sweet but has the 2-2.5k drone and can get loud.

also- clashez is a moron- pay him no heed, no matter how much he loops the conversation

Thanks for the reply

we dont have an emission test where I live so Im covered on that side
so if I get a full exhaust from cattman would I still need to get the O2 simulator? so there is not O2 plug in on cattman headers at all? if no, wouldn't that throw check engine light?

you will have an SES light on constantly and will throw codes. The O2 simulator tricks the computer to not throw any codes.

If your doing Cattman, just be prepared to pay $2k+ on the headers, 3" cat-back and labor. While they are the superior product(quality and HP wise), you have to pay for that quality

Welcome to the forum. Since you seem new to this, one word of advise, if you deal with private sales, ONLY use Paypal or deal locally. Dwolla is worthless if you need to dispute a transaction.

chances are, you will get an SES light for a p0430 and p0420 if you gut your cats or get headers as 95VQ30 mentioned.

However, O2 simulators are supposedly hard to get a hold of now I think, and there is a significantly cheaper option. Instead of paying $50+ for O2 simulators, you can use a $5 pair of spark plug non foulers.

Search the forum and you can easily find information on everything we've mentioned so far.

I installed obx headers with no modification and used the antifouler trick for the secondary o2 sensors. NO CODES for well over 1,500 miles. Obx headers have four ports for all of the o2 sensors. Cattman only has two ports for the primaries. Performance wise there is no difference between cattman and obx. Cattman is better quality and obx is hit or miss when it comes to a few modifications needed to install them. Like I said before, I seem to be lucky not needing any mods to get them to fit.

read my thread here for details on install and opinions:
